1. What were the Iliad and Odyssey?
The Iliad and Odyssey were two epic poems wrote by Homer where we get hints of his life.

2. How did mountains help shape the development of Greek civilization?
The mountains created valleys for the Greeks to civilize in to be protected.

3. How did Spartan males and females serve the military?
Spartan males were raised from childhood to adulthood to fight as warriors in the Spartan military, females were supposed to be trained to be healthy so they could produce healthy young children to fight for the military also.

4. In what way is Athens a democracy?
Because the wealthy nobles ruled the land before, the rest of Athens wanted a change. Athens moved more slowly towards a democracy, males were aloud to participate in the government, and citizenship was strict, however, the people had more of a part in the government than ever before.

5. What were the results of the Persian Wars?
Victory in the Persian Wars increased the Greek sense of their own uniqueness, the gods, they felt, had protected their superior form of government, city-states formed an alliance between each other.

6. How did the Peloponnesian War affect Athens?
It ended Athenian greatness, the democratic government suffered.

7. What is the Socratic Method?
Instead of solving problems, Socrates would ask individuals and question their beliefs and ideas to actually have themselves think things through.

8. Describe the extent of lands conquered by Alexander the Great.
Alexander had captured Macedonia Greece, Egypt, and a third of Persia.

9. What cultures were blended to form Hellenistic civilization?
Greek, Persian, Egyptian, and Indian influences of culture formed the Hellenistic civilization.
