Mr. Krucli English EL 5/9/07 Analysis This auditory project has helped me understand what Shakespeare was trying to portray when Cassius committed suicide. It is now very obvious that Cassius was not a very brave person and was very blind to the reality of things. Since Cassius decided to kill himself before Titinius even got the chance to ride back to him it portrays the fact that Cassius makes his decisions in haste and doesnt think before he acts. Its actually kind of funny how Cassius thinks that Titinius is being captured by the enemies rather than cheering with them. Cassius didnt even really see Titinius being captured at all, he had Pindarus go up on top of the hill and look down and tell Cassius what was happening to Titinius. The way Cassius commits suicide isnt as honorable or as noble as the ways that other people do throughout the story. Comparing his suicide to Portias shows how it isnt very noble. Portia swallowed hot coals herself and didnt order anyone to help her with it but on the other hand Cassius orders his slave to stab him. Maybe if Cassius wouldnt have had such a negative outlook on the whole idea of sending Titinius to the troops he wouldnt have even committed suicide. All it takes is someones ignorance and misunderstanding of something to turn things into havoc. |
