Forward Access Cover |

The forward access covers are used to cover the brake and fuel lines that pass through the center of the fuselage. They also cover the high pressure fuel pump if you have a fuel injected engine, and they provide the baffle for the cabin heat.
I had two problems in making and installin these pieces. First, since I am using a fuel injected engine, I need a high pressure fuel pump which is much larger than the lower pressure one shown in the prints. This is an extra kit I had to buy, and I had to modify the cover that came in the kit.
The second problem I had was that the stiffeners in the floor that the covers fit between were about 1/16" closer together than required for the flanges on the covers to fit between. To solve this I had to cut the flanges off the covers, fabricate some aluminum angle pieces to fit along the floor stiffeners, then rivet the covers onto the aluminum angles. |

This picture shows the two modifications I had to do. First you notice the original access cover is cut shorter and the fuel pump mount fitted in line with it. You also notice the clecos holding the covers onto the aluminum angles because the flanges had to be cut off. |

This picture shows the fuel pump cover fit. The high pressure fuel pump is mounted right in front of the fuel selector switch, (making the fuel line fabricating a lot of fun.) |

The completed covers primed and installed in place. The manual trim cable was installed as the bracket it mounts on had to be bent further to clear the puel pump cover. |
