***********

The morning seemed ages later. The sun shone in the window to reveal Michael and Maria in the bed, together, her head rested on his shirt-covered chest.

They were fast asleep, and didn't hear the knock on the door of their hotel room. Maria stirred a little in her sleep, but didn't awaken.

Since there were aliens on the other side of the door, it took a total of 2 seconds for them to get in. They weren't expecting what they saw, and Isabel gave a little shriek when she saw the two lying together on the bed.

That was enough to awaken Michael. He cocked one eye open slowly, and gave a little start when he saw Max, Isabel, Alex, Liz and Kyle standing at the foot of their bed.

"Wake up Maria," he said, shaking her gently, "We have company."

"I want to sleep," she said grumpily, burrowing her head into him. "Leave me alone."

"You've really gotta wake up," Michael insisted, "We're not alone anymore."

Maria ever so slowly opened her eyes. She was too tired to realize that she was in bed, with a guy, with her friends staring in shock at her. "It's okay honey," she said sleepily to Michael, patting his chest and closing her eyes again. "We don't have to lie anymore."

Michael's mouth quirked with laughter, but Maria's remark seemed to get the rest of them out of their shock. "What do you think you're doing?" Max demanded.

"Sleeping?" Michael asked sarcastically.

He began to slide out of bed, and the rest of them automatically closed their eyes, not realizing he was still fully clothed.

"You know what I'm talking about," Max said sternly.

"Actually," Michael said, beginning to get ticked off, "I have no idea what you're talking about. Now, if you don't mind, I have to go to the washroom."

"We need to talk about this," Max said, grabbing Michael's arm.

"About what?" Michael asked. "I don't see a damn thing we have to discuss. Now, unless you want me to piss on your leg, let me go."

He wrenched his arm loose, and walked to the bathroom, leaving Maria alone to face the rest of them. She was, although reluctantly, awake. She just watched as the rest of them stared at her as she slid out of the bed, wearing Michael's boxer's and t-shirt.

"You guys didn't....you know, did you?" Liz asked nervously, motioning over the bed.

"It's none of your business," Maria snapped, running her fingers through her hair to tame it, "But, to get you off our case, no we didn't."

"I thought you guys were broken up," Isabel said, confused.

"Well obviously we made up," Maria said, getting annoyed, "So, if you're through stating the obvious, I'd like to get some clothes from the stuff Liz and I bought, assuming you have it, and get dressed."

"It's in my suitcase," Isabel said hesitantly, motioning towards the bag on the floor. "Help yourself."

"Thank you," Maria said, trying to preserve as much dignity as she could while walking over there. She felt their eyes on her.

She dug a white t-shirt out of the suitcase, as well as a pair of jeans. When she stood up, they were all still staring.

"Stop it," Maria said sharply. "You've already determined that I'm wearing his clothes and we slept in the same bed, so if you wouldn't mind, stop staring at me."

"I bed you two had sex," Tess said accusingly.

"No," Maria snapped, "As I already mentioned, we didn't. You see, I'm not a slut. And, I'll leave the art of throwing myself at guys to you, Tess. You do seem to be so good at it."

Tess eyes flared red, and she was about to respond but Maria held up a hand, "Don't even try it Tess. Right now is not a good time to piss me off. Just give me one good reason and I'll strangle you with your pretty blonde hair."

"Maria...." Liz said reprovingly.

Maria shook her head, "I'll explain later. Let's just say this little bitch deserves whatever comes to her."

"She's right," Michael said, coming out of the bathroom. "Tess does deserve a lot, but we'll deal with that later."

Tess had gone pale. She never figured Michael would ever find out about what she had done. Maria, whatever, she could handle her, but Michael, she needed him to trust her.

"Michael..." she began feebly, but he cut her off.

"Just save it Tess," he said tersely. "I do not want to hear it."

"Why weren't you two on the airplane?" Max demanded authoritatively.

Michael was sick of Max, and decided he simply was going to ignore him. Maria took it upon herself to answer. "Michael needed to buy Gravol, and I waited. They wouldn't hold the plane, and I didn't want to leave him alone here in the city."

"We were worried sick," Liz told Maria, "We thought the aliens had caught up with you."

"Evidently, they didn't," Maria said. "We're just fine.

"You had cash for the room?" Max asked.

Maria nodded, "Stopped at am ATM to get some from my account. We chose this hotel so you guys could find us easily again."

"We asked the desk clerk if a guy with spikey hair and a blonde girl had checked in and he knew exactly who we were talking about," Isabel remarked.

Michael had fished a pair of jeans and a sweater from his bag and pulled them over his boxers and undershirt. "I think I'd like to take a little walk. Tess, want to join me?"

"I'll come along," Maria said, already plotting how to push Tess into the path of traffic without making it obvious.

"Don't bother," Michael said, "We'll be back soon enough,"

"Besides," Liz said, grabbing her arm, "I'll go with you to checkout, we need to talk as well."

Maria nodded, then turned to the others. "So, where to now? Los Angeles? Atlanta?"

Isabel shrugged, "I vote we close our eyes and point out a place on the map."

"Let's go," Liz said, pulling at Maria.

****************

"So what's so urgent?" Maria asked, as they walked down the hallway.

"You'll never guess who I caught together last night," Liz said, "At the hotel we stayed in."

"Since you seem happy, I'm guessing it's not Max and Tess," Maria said dryly.

Liz shook her head, "No, but the twosome did involve Tess. It was her and Kyle."

Maria shuddered. She had never been extremely fond of Kyle, but nobody deserved to be with Tess, "Did he look like he was being tortured."

Liz shook her head, "He actually seemed to be enjoying himself. When I talked to him afterwards, you know why they were kissing? Tess wanted to see why Max, Isabel and Michael were all so hooked up on us humans."

"Kyle went along with this?" Maria asked, surprised.

Liz shrugged, "She's thin, blonde and good-looking and he's male. Why not?"

"You must be ecstatic," Maria said, "No more blondie to worry about coming between you and Max."

"Even if her being with Kyle meant that she would leave Max alone, which it doesn't, it still wouldn't matter. Max has a bigger destiny. He doesn't belong with me." Liz said, becoming depressed again.

"Oh forget his destiny." Maria said, "He wants you as much as you want him. Do what makes you happy."

"Like you and Michael?" Liz asked, raising her eyebrows.

Maria almost blushed. Almost, but no quite, "Yes, like me and Michael."

"What made you guys get back together?" Liz asked, "Last time I checked, Michael wanted to protect you, and you were all of a sudden really mad at him."

Maria sighed, "I was pissed at him because I had seen him kissing Isabel one night in the hotel. I thought he had used the whole 'love' thing to just get rid of me."

"Okay, he kissed another girl and you guys spent last night in each other's arms?" Liz said, confused.

"That's the thing," Maria said grimly, "He didn't. You know Tess's psychic powers? Well, she applied them to me that night."

"And you allowed her to live?" Liz asked with a touch of humor, raising her eyebrows.

Maria laughed, "If she had been there when I found out, she would have been a dead alien, but she wasn't. I hope Michael's out there right now giving her what she deserves."

"I doubt he's decapitating her," Liz said, rather seriously.
