"The dreams were pretty intense," Tess agreed, leaning across the table closer to Max. "I don't know how Michael and Isabel have avoided doing anything for so long."
Tess glanced up a little, and finally noticed Liz standing just a little behind Max. She made a weird noise. "Max...behind you."
Max whirled around to see Liz standing there, staring at them, obviously overhearing their conversation. An expression of pain was etched into her face.
"You lied to me," was all she said.
"It's not what you thing Liz," Max said urgently, sliding out of the booth.
She gave a bitter laugh, "Do not try telling me that after what I just heard you are not having those same dreams as Michael and Maria. Do not even try to deny it Max."
He shook his head, "I won't, but you have to realize that I didn't keep this from you because I didn't trust you or something. It was because I didn't want you to be hurt."
She nodded, "Oh, I see. So, when were you planning on hurting me then? Having me find out like this? Or, maybe when you got her pregnant? Is that it Max?"
"I never would have slept with her," Max insisted. "I never would have betrayed you like that."
"Right now," Liz said frostily, "Whether or not you would have managed to hold out is beside the point. What I'm upset about is that you lied to me. You looked me straight in the eye and lied to me. I know those dreams are uncontrollable by you. I would have done everything in my power to help you stay away from her. It's not the dreams that upset me Max, it's the fact that you didn't tell me the truth, even though you know how lies will tear us part."
With that, she turned and walked away from him, leaving him with his alien dream lover.
"I'm taking a break," she said to Maria as she stalked by, "Cover my tables for a few minutes."
Maria checked to make sure that nobody was getting really impatient for food, and followed her best friend into the back.
"What's going on?" she asked Liz who had fallen in a chair.
Liz sighed, "To make a long story short, Max and Tess are having the same dreams about each other as Michael and Isabel."
"You're kidding," Maria said.
Liz gave a small laugh, "Hardly. But heck, I should have figured it would happen. And, you know something, it's not the dreams that upset me so much, it's the fact that he lied to me."
"He and Tess, they never...you know?" Maria asked, trying to find a way to do it delicately.
Liz shook her head, "No. Well, at least not yet."
Maria sighed, "Well, I can't fire him in a publicly humiliating way because he doesn't work here. But, I will be happy to 'accidently' have some food slide off my tray onto his head."
Liz smiled, "I don't know what good it would do in the long run, but go ahead, it'll make me feel better."
Maria started to leave, but then turned back. "You'll forgive him Liz, you guys will get past it, you always do. But, a piece of advice. If he comes to you in the middle of the night, make sure he isn't already aroused for that blonde Czechoslovakian."
Maria strode out of the back, leaving Liz there by herself. Liz rested her head in her hands and whispered into the darkness, "That's just the thing, I don't think we will be able to get past this."

Michael walked to the door, where someone was knocking insistently. There was no peephole on his door. Right now, he could only open it to find Isabel on the other side, when the only person he wanted to see was Maria.
"We need to talk," Isabel said.
"Are you sure it's safe for us to be alone together," Michael asked as he moved aside to let her in.
Isabel sighed, "It'll have to be."
She walked over to the couch and sat down, not relaxing though. Michael stood across from her, not sitting, his arms folded over his chest.
"Michael," she began hesitantly, "If it happens again tonight, I don't know what I'm going to do. I basically had to lock myself up last night to avoid coming here."
Michael didn't answer right away. Then he said, "We have to stay in control of this Isabel."
She gave a funny laugh, "Yeah Michael. You're one really known for your control."
"I mean it Isabel," he said, coming closer to her, "I'm not giving in, no matter what it takes. No matter what Maria believes right now, I feel about her, and only her in that way. I care about you so much, but even the deepest biological urges won't make me hurt her like that."
"I understand Michael," Isabel said. Her mind flashed to Alex. They weren't anywhere near what Michael and Maria had, but she couldn't stop the pang in her heart whenever she thought of him. "But, that's why I'm here. We have to stop those damn dreams before they ruin everything."
