With virtually no money, Dicey managed to make sure that she, her brothers, James and Sammy, and younger sister, Maybeth, had nutritious meals throughout their journey. Make a list of at least five foods which the children consumed. Then you will need to figure out the nutritional value of these foods. When you figure this out, make a pie chart to show the amount of nutritional value that the children obtained from the foods that they consumed during their journey. (SC Standards 6-R1.3 and 6-R1.14)
While in route to her grandmother's house, the Tillermans encounter many people who are in various careers. You will complete research on several different careers which are mentioned in Homecoming. As you read about each career, make a list to indicate the following items: A. Training required
B. Positive aspects
C. Negative aspects

1. Complete each of the tasks listed above.
2. Consider the ways that the information you just read might have affected the Tillerman children in their quest to find a home.
3. Write a journal entry based on each task as if you were Dicey Tillerman. Use the information that you have gathered to decide if you, as Dicey, found enough courage in everyday situations to overcome the obstacles that were encountered in each task.

Each student's work will be graded based on the following criteria:
1. Completeness (at least one entry for each of the three tasks) Does your entry contain enough information to complete each task thoroughly? (30 points)
2. Does each entry use the information found in the links? (30 points)
3. Does each entry tie together the information found in the links and the obstacles which Dicey overcame? (20 points)
4. Conventions (spelling, grammar, complete sentences) (20 points)
As you can see, Dicey discovered the courage to overcome many obstacles in everyday situations as she led her younger brothers and younger sister in their quest of a home. Think about how you would have approached this situation if you had been Dicey, abandoned by both parents, no money for food, no close relatives. How could you have found the courage to overcame so many obstacles when trying to find a home?
