TOPIC:  PROTEIN POWER

I don't know about you, but high protein/low fat is probably my biggest focus in body building/weight training.  What really gets to me is how can so many people be so un-educated?  There are so many diets (i.e., Atkins) that promote high protein...but with high fat!  It seems to me that no matter what your goals are...from weight loss to muscle gain...high protein/low fat is the only way to go.

What's your opinion?

TOPIC:  NPC ANNOUNCES FIGURE COMPETITIONS

I am so excited about this new division in NPC Competitions.  I recently injured myself on two seperate occasions, which left me unable to do gymnastcis.  Therefore, my dream of competing in Fitness Competitions was shattered.  Thanks to Jim Manion, President of NPC, there is now a division for all of the women who have worked so hard to get physically fit, but don't have the gymnastics background required by Fitness Competitions.  My thumbs up to Jim Manion (and Monica Brant who host's Rock Hard Body Challenges with the same principle in mind).

What's your opinion?

TOPIC:  CREATINE FOR WOMEN

If you have read "My Supplements" page you know that I use Femme Advantage sublingual creatine.  I have been reading up on Creatine use for females and am getting conflicting conclusions.  I would like to use it for more energy and of course for "cuts", however I am very afraid of the common bloating effect".  I am curious if there are any females who can share with me their experiences with Creatine.

What's your opinion?

RESPONSE FROM [email protected]

I'm a male 38 year old marathoner, trail marathoner and biathlon competitor.

I think it's been documented that powder form creatine does bloat.  The substance allows for greater water retention including water inside the muscles and puts on muscle rapidly with workouts and proper dosing.  It also causes cramps in endurance exercise.  I have used pure micronized creatine and bulked up great to the point of being buff which is unusual in my events.  There are some new forms of creatine which are liquid and are faster acting at increasing actual muscle strength but don't bulk as much (bloat with water).  These are great for increasing performance.  I have also increased muscle using a computerized weight machine monitoring system which checks and corrects range of motion and up-down speed (a personal trainer or buddie can do this too).  Drinking
lotssss of water is essential too.  I aim for a minimum of one oz per 2 lbs body weight when training and more when competing (that's over three qts daily for me!).  I have lifted since I was a teen but got away from the basics and boy do they help.  Best of luck in reaching your fitness goeals.  You are looking great!
