Minneaux

I was born in a place that I have come to learn as Moonglow. My mother, Katherine d'Fleur, was a beautiful woman, but always seemed a bit sad -- as if she carried some dread secret that no one was to know. My father -- well, the man whom I was supposed to call father -- Remar, he was a strong man. His features were pleasant, but there was a hint of distaste when he looked at my mother. He loved her dearly, but I, as a child, was very perceptive. It never felt right to me to call him 'Father,' so, I called him Remar. He did not seem to mind -- although, as I grew, so did his distaste for my mother. During my 16th year, Remar went out on a quest for the King of the land -- he was to find the creature slaughtering small children and women and destroy it. Remar was so proud to take on this mission. He was, after all, the best Knight in the King's Guard! He, however, was not prepared for the battle that lay ahead of him. Battered, bruised, and bleeding, Remar returned to us -- minus one arm, which had been torn off by the Daemon Guard of the Fire Elemental. He agonized over the loss of his arm. For five more years, he would try to hold on to his life, but finally, feeling life was worthless, he gave up and passed on.
My mother seemed to breathe a bit more easily at last. After twenty years of living with Remar, she seemed to look younger -- much younger. But, the fact still remained that she was not young and those years of placated bliss had taken their toll. She fell ill and no doctor was able to determine her ailment. She passed on, as well, seven years after her husband. She passed on peacefully, for when I found her the very next day, she had the most beautiful smile on her face. *begins to wipe some tears from her eyes, as her lips mimic the smile that was upon her mother's own* Forgive me, I just loved her deeply...She was so beautiful lying there...it was as if the gods had ushered her to their presence and offered her a seat with them. And deserving of such a position she was! She would be the Goddess of Compassion, for that is all my mother knew! *pauses a minute to regain her composure* Forgive me, I pray thee...The night before her death, she said to me, "My Minneaux, when I am gone, I want you to follow your heart and your instincts. They will lead you to one who will guide you and care for you...and when you find him...tell him I love him still...and I will watch over him..." I thought this an odd request, but I promised her and I kissed her forehead, then returned to my chambers. For two long years I traveled throughout Trammel until I happened upon a Tavern where I did meet a curious man by the name of Kynbo of Moonglow. I knew his name in my heart, but I did not know him -- until I saw him. I knew he was my Father. He confirmed this to me in a story that -- I could tell -- he had been preparing himself to one day tell me. My heart grieved with his over the loss of my mother, and rejoiced with his as we had finally found each other and were united once again...
'As things were...they shall be again...'
