Thursday
w/ SPARTA

April 12, 2002
Black Cat - Washington, DC

Black Cat, a very cool venue indeed, this was the first time for me. I went with Pam to this show, and we met up with Rich in the line outside. The line was long as shit, and was about 2-3 blocks long, taking about 20 mins to acutally get into the club. The show was sold out, but even when everyone finally got in, there was mad room still. Plus, there seemed to be a lot of wallflowers which made for a non-crowded pit, at least not as crowded as you would expect for a band like that. There was a first band before Thursday, but I forget what they were called or what they sounded like. Thursday got on and started out with the first track of their cd "A0001," which is basically a bunch of noise that builds up into "Understanding in a Car Crash," but it sounded really awesome live. They rocked hard that night, just like every time they play a show as far as I've heard, and there's not much more to say. Sparta went on last and I don't think anyone in the audience was a real fan. I hadn't heard them before either, so I can't complain. A few of their songs were pretty cool, and then the others were all electronic influenced and boring. And from what I heard, there wasn't much of an At the Drive In flavor to any of it. We didn't stay for their entire set however, and left after 5 songs. All in all, it was a good show, I highly recommend the Black Cat.

SETLIST:
Understanding in a Car Crash
Concealer
Autobiography of a Nation
Standing on the Edge of Summer
Paris in Flames
How Long is the Night
Cross Out the Eyes
plus 2-3 songs from their album "Waiting"
