Apparently Victory didn't think so when they told the band that their lyrics weren't important enough to put in the liner notes and when they distributed Thursday whoopie cushions as part of their promotion. But aside from Thursday's difference's with their label, the New Jersey natives touched upon something great with this, their second album. The first "song" sets the mood for the whole album and builds up to the first song on the cd "Understanding in a Car Crash," which gives you a hint of what's to come on the rest of the cd. Geoff Rickly's voice isn't like anything else you've probably heard, going from a soft and lispy voice into full out phelgm-loosening screaming. And let me tell you, there is enough screaming on this cd that it would probably scare away AFI. That intensity along with 4 guys who can really use their instruments make this album something to check out. Most of the songs are so intricate that you could probably never learn how to play them yourself unless the band sat down and taught them you to. This is always a good thing, considering most bands out there can be mimiced by using power chords all the way through. But the songs are only exceeded by the band's stage performance, which, if you can believe, actually outdoes what you hear on the album. There has also been a special edition of this album released, with 2 music videos included on it, you might wanna pick up at one at the same price as the normal cd. |
