![]() Summer's Kiss EP (2002 Eulogy) BAND: Chris Carrabba (vocals, guitar) - Dan Bonebrake (bass) - Mike Marsh (drums) TRACKLIST: living in your letters - sharp hint of new tears - turpentine chaser - ender will save us all REVIEW: On the heel's of Chris Carrabba's new found success with playing out with a full band rather than going solo, out comes The Summer's Kiss Ep. All the songs are new, full-band versions of four tracks off of Dashboard's first release, 'The Swiss Army Romance'. At first I thought this would be a horrible idea, I was disappointed to hear that Carrabba was toting along a band with him now. The whole thing about Dashboard is that it was one guy with an acoustic, and it was cool cause it started out that way, not like a band getting popular and THEN delving into acoustic music. So I thought that he would just ruin all of his good songs, as I'm sure most of the other Dashboard fans felt the same way. Luckily for me, I hadn't really heard the original versions of most of these songs, so I wasn't expecting something other than what it was. And that's the only way to go with this little EP, don't expect to hear the same exact 'Swiss Army' versions with a bass and drums slapped onto them. They really tweaked out these songs for optimal "band sound" if you understand what I'm trying to say. And in a lot of the instances it works out quite well, adding in some nice accents here and there and changing up the rhythms and dynamics. Plus, Mike Marsh is a great drummer, and he really helps pick up on some of the tracks. The best track on here is probably the new version of "Ender Will Save Us All," mainly because it rocks unlike it's original version. |
