REVIEW:
In a strange pairing, New Jersey's Catch 22 became the first ska band on Victory Records in 1998. At first listen, this ska sound dosen't seem very original, in fact it just sounds like Less Than Jake. But further into the album, it does grow on me a bit, and also distances itself from bands like LTJ and current label mates Voodoo Glow Skulls. As far as the genre goes, they have a very tight sound and are very good at the anthemic ("keasbey nights") and slightly jazzy ("walking away") ska songs, with the obligatory horns in the background. Then you've got all out hardcore, hornless songs like "giving up giving in". If fast, upbeat ska songs with a definite jazz influence are what you're into, then you'll like this, it's pretty good stuff.
