REVIEW:
Let's start this review off with a quote from this website's better half, Rob Perry: "I found it completely unoriginal and nothing like what they said it was supposed to be like." This sums the album up completely. The album opens up with a sound slightly reminiscent of Fugazi, until the distinctly annoying vocals set in. So as to not completely bash this album right away, sometimes I think Guy Picciotto's vocals are annoying too. Sometimes. That being said, I only make the comparison to Fugazi, because in interviews supporting this much anticipated album, the main them was that they would go 'back to their influences', namely Fugazi. Fugazi dosen't write songs about being sad over girls. Never. So then we have the song 'Cat Like Thief'. Interesting, Tim Armstrong trades vocals with Tom DeLonge on this one. Let me tell you, I love Rancid. But Tim Armstrong couldn't sing his way out of a paper bag. Hearing his voice here, however, was an incredible relief. Let's move on to 'Letters To God'. I saw it written how this is a great song because DeLonge is "standing up to God" and telling him how he isn't ready to die. I don't know much about what God is thinking, but i'm pretty sure he's not a pushover for whiners. So Tom starts off with no chance of changing Gods mind. Then Tom decides to deafen God with a blast of his guitar. Maybe his plan was to lull god to sleep with bad poetry and then blow god's ears out so he can sneak away? So ok, this album has serious lyrics on it, and shouldn't be compared to Blink 182. Wait, did I just hear something about not having a dick at the end of the hardcore-ish 'My First Punk Song'? Oh. And wait, Mark Hoppus makes a guest appearance on this album? Oh again. So are they better than Blink 182? Due to the false advertising on this album, and the fact that Mark Hoppus is the funniest member, I'd say probably not.
