![]() Very Proud Of Ya (1996 Nitro) BAND: davey havok (vocals) - adam carson (drums) - geoff kresge (bass, vocals) - mark (guitar, vocals) TRACKLIST: he who laughs last... - file 13 - wake-up call - cult status - perfect fit - advances in modern technology - theory of revolution - this secret ninja - soap-box derby - aspirin free - fishbowl - charles atlas - crop tub - consult my lover - take the test - two of a kind - shatty fatmas - yurf rendenmein - cruise control - modern epic REVIEW: I like this album a lot, even though it dosen't sound like their newer stuff that much. Davey Havok's voice had not nearly developed into the power it is today, but the emotion is still very much there. It's easier to relate to the lyrics on this album, not very much is dark and cryptic as is true on the newer albums. One song (it slips my mind right now which one) sounds exactly like "Total Immortal". ![]() Shut Your Mouth And Open Your Eyes (1997 Nitro) BAND: davey havok (vocals) - adam carson (drums) - mark (guitar) - hunter burgan (bass) br> TRACKLIST: keeping out of direct sunlight (an introduction) - three reasons - a single second - ph low - let it be broke - third season - lower your head and take it in the body - coin return - the new patron saints and angels - three seconds notice - salt for your wounds - today's lesson - the devil loves you - triple zero REVIEW: Anyone else notice this band's obsession with the number "3"? I guess they are just infatuated with autumn, it being the third season. All in all, this is a very good album. Davey's voice is almost at it's most powerful but it seems like he struggles with it a couple of times. This is also the first album with bass player Hunter Burgan, and he is definitely better than they're old bass player. ![]() Black Sails In The Sunset (1999 Nitro) BAND: adam carson (drums) - davey havok (vocals) - hunter (bass) - jade puget (guitar) TRACKLIST: strength through wounding - porphyria cutanea tarda - exsanguination - malleus malificarum - narrative of soul against soul - clove smoke catharsis - the prayer position - no poetic device - weathered tome - the last kiss - at a glance - god called in sick today REVIEW: Everything about this album is excellent, from Alan Forbes cover art, to the fact that you can't pronounce half of the song titles. I think "god called in sick today" is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard, but it is beautiful in the way of watching the world explode. Like I could imagine sitting on a hill, watching a mushroom cloud...while this song was playing in the background. Dexter Holland of the Offspring does backup vocals here, and you can distinctly here his voice at times, it sounds pretty cool. ![]() All Hallow's EP (1999 Nitro) BAND: adam carson (drums) - davey havok (vocals) - hunter (bass) - jade puget (guitar) TRACKLIST: fall children - halloween - the boy who destroyed the world - total immortal REVIEW: A great little 4 song ep with an autumn theme to it. The Misfits cover is outstanding, and "total immortal" by AFI is much better than the Offspring's cover of it (for the Me, Myself, and Irene soundtrack). Oh I just thought of something else. At first I thought it was rediculous to have all that weird noise at the end of each track, but I recently noticed that because of this, the EP comes in at 13:13 in length! Coincidence? I think not. ![]() The Art Of Drowning (2000 Nitro) BAND: adam carson (drums) - davey havok (vocals) - hunter (bass) - jade puget (guitar) TRACKLIST: initiation - the lost souls - the nephilim - ever and a day - sacrifice theory - of greetings and goodbyes - smile - a story at three - the days of the phoenix - catch a hot one - wester - 6 to 8 - the despair factor - morningstar REVIEW: There is nothing I could say bad about this album. It is probably in my top 5 of all time. I think this is the album that will (maybe unfortunately), end up getting them into the mainstream, especially now that they have signed to Dreamworks. I have seen "the days of the phoenix" on MTV2, so who knows. I do know that there is not a single song on here that I could classify as mediocre. "6 to 8" and "morningstar" are both beautiful songs, along the same realm as "god called in sick today" from Black Sails. Unbelievably excellent. |
