artist's statement
Hands have a personality of their own. You tell can a lot from a person from their hands. Hands are very animated, they show you how a person feels. Hand gestures can let you know a persons feelings. By looking at a persons hands alone, how they move and reaction to things can let you know how they think or feel. Hands allow people to do a number of daily activities. Hands speak.
I took fifty photographs of hands in different scenes and doing different things. I mostly used my hands in the photos and some of my friends and familys hands. It was interesting how many different ways I was able to come up with using hands
as my subject.
I have grouped similar photo scenes together to make it flow around the page. I kept it simple and clean again because it goes better with my images which I want the main focus to be. I also kept the photos straight across up and down because I wanted it to look like the hands were talking to the viewer, telling different stories within 50 frames. I wanted the photos to have that film strip look which is also why I kept the format straight across.
At the top, the three of the four pictures are photos of my hand manipulated in PhotoShop and the fourth image is an outline of my hand to make a drawing of a turkey. The next couple of rows are diffent scenes with hands doing different things. With the bottom half of the photos and wanted to have fun and really creative with the hand photos.
