3. Adding BEC to Tamiya TEU-101BK ESC.                      8 DEC 2005
This is a Tamiya TEU-101BK electronic speed controller that is included when I bought Tamiya Baja Champ 4WD 1/10 Off Road model car. Total are $399HK very cheap in Hong Kong.

According to manual, it is Forward/Reverse ESC. can be set to Forward and Brake, or Forward Brake Reverse. It also has heat protect and over current protect.

Max continuous current : Forward 60A, Reverse 60A
Power input : 7.2V (6 cells)
Driving Freq : 1 KHz
Output Voltage to receiver : 7.2V

In power on, the motor is act as speaker. When no signal input from receiver, the motor will sound "be.. be..". It is interesting.

Moreover, there are 4 piece of FET to build a bridge circuit for forward/backward. 4 is same model. And I measure the gate pin of the FET is 4 x battery voltage. There are boot-up circuit build-in, make it possible to using 4 same model FET.
I use 8.4V (7 cells) to power input this ESC. It is Ok, no damage but maybe increase the load of its FET. After using, I think why this ESC has another power plug to insert to receiver, why no combine power wire and 3-wire together to make it is like normal ESC.

I open its case and find the wire. Because the power wire is connected the battery through small fuse. The voltage of power plug is battery voltage. it will be insert to receiver BEC socket.

At the end,  I cut and soldering the Voltage regulator 7805 IC to power wire, 7805 IC output pin is connected to red and black colour of 3-wire plug. making it become normal ESC. Testing is Ok.

The modification is taking your own risk.
