| Fad or Fame: 5.10 Zlipper |
| Okay 5.10.......what ever happened to your classic rock shoes? This shoe looks like something an alien would wear. Where did you get the material for this shoe? A hooker? It looks like part of the intricate patterning of a gypsy's coat! Now lets just forget about what the shoe actually looks like and concentrate on how it performs. It seems like with the zipper and all the material covering it up that it would be an unnecessarily heavy shoe. I also want to know what you're supposed to do when the zipper is opening up on you when your on your fifth pitch on a route? I sure wouldn't want to have to stop my climbing because of my equipment. I personally would rather wear a lace up shoe or slip on or, even as a last resort, Velcro before I'd wear the 5.10 Zlipper rock shoe. It might be a great shoe to just have around and is probably fairly durable but being more durable in this case means that they've added material to cover up the zipper. They have also added a piece of metal to a rock shoe! I don't want my shoe weighed down like that. The purpose of rock shoes is to protect your feet because your feet and legs are the powerhouse of your climbing abilities and strength. In this case of Fad or Fame the 5.10 Zlipper is a FAD. 5.10 has just gone overboard on this shoe. Rock shoes should be kept simple. There are four main types of rock shoes; high top lacers, low top lacers, Velcro, and the slip on. Now 5.10 has broken the standard in shoes and made a Zlipper. They have combined a slip on shoe and a zippered shoe. My question is why make thecombination of the two shoes. The slip on is a perfectly capable shoe by itself and doesn't need the extra zipper material to help it out! I would recommend ANY other 5.10 rock shoe but not the Zlipper. The Zlipper is a FAD, and I suspect it will die out quickly. Climbers will stay with what they know best because they know it works! BMB PS: Keep it simple. |
