Michael Jackson aka Wacko Jacko has been in the spotlight since he was 11 years old. At a young age Michael had an unbelievable success while he was in the Jackson 5 and then gaining even more when he went solo putting out one of the best selling albums ever Thriller. Nothing seemed to be able to stop him, nothing but himself. After years of eccentric antics, Michaels success has faded and now he is no longer talked about because of his music, but because of his odd lifestyle. Michael might have been mature at a young age but now he has grown up into a child.
I could go on about Michael but he isnt my focus, my focus is on the new generation of child stars who are trying to grow up. Some are able to do the transition and some end up just growing up into a child. Which brings me to my topic Britney Spears. She is my pick for the next Wacko.
She was/is to some an idol, to others she their guilty pleasure. Britney has been in the news recently, but not for her music, but for her strange behavior. She was once the reigning Princess of Pop, with her pigtails and midriff baring schoolgirl outfit. In 1999 Britney Spears began her musical take over on the world with her mega hit album Baby One More Time. As she lip-synced and danced to her poppy tunes, she seemed to do no wrong. No matter how cheesy her songs were radio would overplay them. Teens and pre-teens bought everything she put out. She was a product made to sell, and thats what she did, and she did it well.
By 2000 she was on top of it all. She was the first youngest female singer to have the largest debut album sale and the first female artist to have a #1 single and album simultaneously. With that under her belt, she releasing another album Oops I Did It Again and again it sold big. Everything she did was bigger for her than the last. It started to seem that her self-impotents was starting to blind her. In 2001 Britney released her third album Britney, which didnt do as well as the pervious two albums, but still sold 740,000 albums in the first week. She later released her first movie Crossroads. Which was a pointless and weak storyline if any. It didnt do well, but it ended up tying with Madonna as Worst Performance by an Actress at the Razzie Awards, and also won Worst Original Song for "I'm Not A Girl Not Yet A Woman". She then started a partnership with a New York restaurant, 'Nyla'. In 8 months she terminated the partnership. Then in 2003 she released her forth album In The Zone which sold even less then Britney.
Her last studio album In The Zone was by far her poorest attempt at music Ive ever heard (with the exception of Toxic). The Album was full of lame songs with over synthesized vocals. She stray away from the pop music Britney was known for and not in a good direction. It seemed like she wanted to show how grown up she had become. With songs about masturbating and make-up sex, but coming across more like a sex obsessed child. Heres a hint sex does not equal maturity.
The songs Britney has chosen to released lately have been some of the most awful songs ever. Seriously if Me Against The Music or the most dreadful Do Something had been recorded and released by any new artist at the time they came out, I can almost guarantee we would of maybe heard the song maybe fives times on the radio, before it would be lost. The only reason these songs were as successful as they were was because it was Britney singing it.
Putting her music aside, Ill move on to her media coverage. It use to be about her music (whether it was good or not), or her high energy tours (which were always packed with fans), but now its has nothing to do with her music. Now its all about her crazy antics. Like posing on her balcony for the paparazzi after saying how she wants them to leave her alone or putting a letter on her website about how angry she is about the lies the media is making up that she is pregnant than about a week or two later make the announcement that she is actually pregnant. I wont even start with the whole Chaotic TV show that should of never been made.
I could go on about this, but you can make up you own mind. You dont have to agree with me, remember this in my opinion. Im sure some of you can find even more reasons why I think this and some of you might think Im way off base, either way I dont care.
