The Truth about Laser Eye Surgery
Laser eye surgery does not cure nearsightedness.  It merely turns the cornea of the eye into the prescription glasses by changing the shape or the curvature of the cornea.  After laser eye surgery, even though you may not need to wear glasses, theoretically, you are still nearsighted and your eyeballs are still extra long and thus at a very high risk of  retinal detachment.
If you still don't know how to "protect" your eyes, i.e., to control your nearsightedness, your nearsightedness could still get worse and you will then need to wear glasses.  And you are at a even higher risk of having retinal detachment.
