The day, which falls on June 5, encourages activism around the world. That means everything from littering to climate change. World Environment Day is an important platform for global celebration and public outreach. China, which now has half of the world's electric vehicles and 99 percent of the world's electric buses, hosted the 2019 event. This "country has shown tremendous leadership in tackling domestic air pollution," said UN Environment Executive Director Joyce Masuya. "It can help inspire the world to greater action now."
