| Tetra: Escher is still one of my favorite artists (it is amazing how often his name comes up). When browsing thru his works, quite a few of his images have something distorted in an unusual or impossible way, but what I like best about his work is that it seems to challenge the viewer to think outside the box. This image is not really all that twisted, but I think it does have some aspects that are similar to themes that Escher explored in his works such as his interest in polyhedra and similar shapes with a gradual progression of scale. Here, the four individual (indivisible?) pieces that make up the tetrahedral assembly are identical, once again passing thru each other without touching thanks to the strategically placed circular cutouts along the edges. I am especially fond of the way the three corners come together as seen thru the large circular hole centered on forward face. |
