This image was inspired by some scrap pieces that I found at work. Three large, old motor mounts made out of some hefty aluminum bar (they are about six pounds each) had the same profile as the unit piece I used in the lattice structure. Coincidentally, the dimensions were just right so that the parts could be assembled together with the use of a large rubber mallet to achieve a tidy press fit. If I had a truckload of these things, I could have expanded my three piece construction into a continuous pattern like these.
Here, I have combined three of these patterns at right angles so that they are intersecting, but not interfering with each other.
