| THE MELTRANDI Commonly known as no more than the female cohorts of the Zentraedi, the Meltrandi hold a thrilling and to some, unnerving history all their own. As an all-female fleet, they would always be forced to prove themselves out of a shadow of inferiority cast by their male rivals, and most would agree that they have succeeded in doing so. Born of the same genetic engineering that created the Zentraedi, the Meltrandi were indeed constructed by the Robotech Masters to be the female companions to their giant warriors, them seeing that an all-male existence infuriated their creations. However, what was conceived to be the inferior sex proved itself to be more vicious, violent, and bloodthirsty than any other specie in the Masters' history. It was then that the Meltrandi began to forge their place in the skies of space. Discontented with the primal and "barbaric" nature of the armors designed for the Zentraedi's battle, the Meltrans demanded of their technological masters new weapons, specifically designed both for the female body type and combat manuvering. What was born was the famous female power armor, which--in coming days--would become nicknamed "the flames from above" by the Meltrandi's unfortunate victims, as cannon and missile fire destroyed their forces without mercy. The female giants grew in number thanks to the recognition of their skills by the Masters' scientists, and soon, their force numbered in the millions. Without ulterior motive, they had developed a rivalry with the Zentraedi, but by the time that the Masters had comprehended the scope of the potential problems that a war between armies of fifty-foot giants would hold, the Meltrans already held control of a signifigant portion of the galaxy. (This, logically enough, stretched outwars from the area of Tirol, but in the opposite direction as the Zentraedi's influence.) Feared throughout the universe, the Meltrandi's lust for violence came to a head as the Zentraedi battled the super dimensional fortress from Earth.--Seeing the massing of ships in this solar system, they were without any thought of a second battle as each and every ship in the Meltrandi's main fleet was launched into combat. In actual numbers, the females were far more destructive to the enemy than those that they suffered--some would give a Zentraedi-Meltrandi loss ratio of more than 25:1--and the war could be declared a success. However, culture had infiltrated the ships of the Meltrandi all the same. Again, the lost feelings of joy, peace, and love were reborn in the wombs of the female fleet, rendering them willingless to risk destroying either the humans who carried this culture or the Zentraedi who had once been their mates. From this realisation, the most feared pilots in the galaxy would reach an understanding that life was worth saving and hoping that their children whould usher in a new way of life for the Meltrandi. Modern day has given the Meltrandi an outlook for the future free of bloodshed and power armors. Following Space War I, the notion of childbearing proved the most exciting for most Meltrans, and gave rise to a sort of "baby boom" that saw children born of Meltran and Zentran as well as Meltran and human fathers. However, by no notion has the fighting spirit of this species died in recent years, as Meltrandi have risen to positions of great power, affecting the cultural world both in military and civilian life. |
