| THE ROBOTECH MASTERS In the years following Space War I, as human scientists questioned Zentraedi and Meltrandi about their pasts, the creative force known as the Robotech Masters was revealed. The first inclination of humans was to equalise the Masters with a sort of God, because, after all, they were the creators of not one, but two species of people. Shrouded in the shadows of history, the Robotech Masters are the species known to humanity with the longest historical record. Over the course of ten Earth millenia, the humanoid Masters developed a peaceful culture that evolved around the sciences. Their home, the third moon of the planet Fantoma, named Tirol, served as the Edenistic backdrop for their advancements, and with every man, woman, and child, old and young, well fed and safe, the people were free to indulge themselves in whatever learning or creativity suited them best. This intelligence spurned the Masters' need for information beyond their own memory banks, and so the first interstellar ships were constructed to launch the curious specie into space. They found themselves in a paradise of discovery, with new races, peoples, and planets to behold. One which they found particularly fascinating was an organic planet known as Optera, which contained a plant known as the Flower of Life, and the race completely dedicated to its cultivation, the Invid. One brilliant scientist of the Robotech Masters began experiments with these flowers, discovering that they held substantial amounts of biogenetic energy that could be tapped through the application of the Masters' own technology. Through this, the Protoculture Matrix was created, a bonding of bio- and techno-engineering that laid the first stones for the technology known as Robotech. With the advent of Robotech saw jealousy spread, and the Robotech Masters were soon under attack. But rather than pain or remorse, a sense of power overcame the previously sedated Masters, and with the knowledge in hand that they were the only ones in the universe to possess such technology, greed and force became the new standbys of their operations. As such, the first creation was the genetic engineering of clones to be sent to the planet Fantoma to participate in mining operations on the surface. The result was the birth of the Zentraedi, a race whose solid structures could easily reach the ore required for the construction of the first Robotech ships. "Greed is good," heard the Robotech Masters, and this, coupled with a rise in the power and influence of the Invid, only threw fuel onto a fire that burned to have the power of Robotechnology--and its controlling masters--possess the universe. In the following decades, more and more Zentraedi would be created to serve as the Masters' soldiers, followed by a new female race to further strengthen their power, the Meltrandi. For millenia, the Robotech Masters saw their giant warriors spread their sphere of influence, constantly reminding others of the power that they possessed. However, when their first super dimensional fortress (which was to be their coup de grace for battle) was lost, they saw no alternatives but to send the Zentraedi in to reclaim it. This decision, however, would mark the first mistake in their military history, as even the brilliant minds of Tirol had failed to consider the effects of culture upon their warriors, bred only for war. And thus, the Zentraedi fell victim to humanities lines, and the Masters were left without many decisions for recourse. Infuriated by the defeat of the Zentraedi, the Masters would follow suit and attempt to reclaim the technologies of the super dimensional fortress, themselves. On two separate ventures to Earth, entire fleets of Robotech Masters and their clones were obliterated by human defenses, leaving little to chance and few remaining on their home world. Sadly enough, the Robotech Masters' urge to recapture the fortress counteracted their original reason for doing so: The technologies within--most noticably the last remaining Protoculture Matrix, lined with Invid Flowers of Life--had to be kept from the Invid, but as the flagship of the Robotech Masters was defeated, its crash to the Earth's surface freed the flowers from the matrix, thus allowing a nearby Invid sensor nebula to inform the Invid of the location of the technologies. Following Space War II, humanity learned of the destruction of the Masters' homeworld at the hands of the Invid. U.N. Spacy military forces were on the scene at the time, and were able to cooperate with those Masters remaining on the planet to fight off the enemy. The planet was in ruins, but, hand-in-hand, the Masters, humans, Zentraedi, and Meltrandi cooperated to rebuild the planet. Those Masters who returned from other ventures and were not on Tirol to this date many of the survivors of Space War II hold a continuing grudge against the Spacy and its exploits in space. Life outside of the Masters' control proved difficult to their clones following the war, with the human ideas of self and oneness overriding their cooperative nature of operation in groups of three. However, successive generations have shown no difficulties in culture, and live amongst us without thoughts of difference in ancestry. And while no true Robotech Masters are any longer knwon to exist, their creations survive today, three major players in our culture. |
