| THE INVID While widely considered the most dangerous race in the galaxy, recent research into Invid development by a conglomeration of scientists has yielded information that points to the fact that the Invid are not inherently evil and destructive, but rather have been based upon such a plane that they would appear so. Like the Robotech Masters, the Invid's history reaches further back in time than any records of which exist. However, unlike their long-time rivals, it has been deduced that there were only two different periods in the Invid history, both of which characterised by battle and conquering. Prior to the development of Robotechnology, the generally slug-like Invid populated hundreds of planets which bore the fruits of a plant known as the Flower of Life, chief of these became their own homeworld of Optera. Far from a pleasure or narcotic, to the Invid the Flower was their only reason for existing, for with its development and maturation, the race could spread and grow in its population, but more importantly, could evolve, their genetic structure attaining a higher plane through the interactions of their own biology and the nutrients contained in the flower. The Invid grew these flowers in fields that covered planetary surfaces, and thanks to their leaders' ingenuity, more Invid were created. However, the creation of more of the race severely drained the power of each planet itself, and this left the Invid with no other choice but to move from planet to planet, sowing the seeds of the Flower of Life, and using the ground until it was blackened by the cultivation. This need for new places to plant their flowers gave rise to a history of conquest unmatched in known history. Indeed, the occupants of fertile planets were seldom willing to forfeit their lands, and so, with warships and infantries alike born of the same blood as their own peoples, the Invid became the most powerful force in the galaxy. This need for biological growth also held the fact that all of the planets that the race came upon were not necessarily apt for growing the flowers within their own air, and through biological engineering, the Invid scientists created what would become the Invid's eye-piece for other races: The Genesis Pits--enclosures full of genetic energy and capable of supporting the flowers into blossoming. With the development of Robotechnology, the Invid found that other species were suddenly capable of matching them in warfare, thus enflaming the battle-prone hearts of their warriors. The result was an increased number of conquered planets and a vigor for destruction that frightened peoples far and wide. To the Invid, the Robotech Masters and their new technology--which was, ironically enough, based off of the Invid's own bio-technologies--could not be allowed to spread, and the only resolve was to conquer all and spread the Invid empire to its fullest strength possible. However, the Invid found themselves exhausting their powers in this quest for dominance, and required relief. In their discovery of the Protodevilin, they found such an ally, and with the meetings of each race's respective leaders, an alliance was made that was particularly helpful to the Invid: When circumstances deemed it necessary, the Invid would 'loan' their Shock Troopers and other military to the use of the Protodevilin. With this extra strength, the Protodevilin were free to ravage the people of a desired planet, leaving the planet itself clear for the farming nature of the Invid's tasks. This comradeship saw both groups prosper immensely, but at this time, the sudden growth in Invid power was called to task with the discovery of an already developed cache of Flowers of Life on the planet Earth. The battle for Earth was a tremendous victory for the Invid, who quickly placed the residing human population into a controllable state of dormancy and filled the planets with genesis pits--the massive enclosures in which their genetic enginnering took place. Many years of development on Earth served the Invid well, allowing them to gain evolutionary strands that led them to the ability to assume a humanoid form, amongst many others previously unknown to the general of their specie. Eventually, however, the Invid, despite their growths, were ousted from their place on Earth by Earthling military forces returning from the Robotech Masters' homeworld. The loss was devastating to the people as a whole, and morale was shot to an all-time low. However, this state would not last for long, for the Regis (leader of the Invid peoples) was enlightened by the result on Earth and by the people that could execute such a move against her race. Her developed love for humans caused a major change in the structure of the Invid hierarchy when the Regis allowed her people the choice of evolution into the humanoid form. And while there are many Invid that selected this path and have since joined the culture that we live in today, many chose to remain, warriors dedicated to the Flower of Life and forever opposed to the Robotech Masters and their minions. Still, Invid today often face problems in cultural settings due to the bias-based on-actions of others of their race, who often militarise to strike at humanoid planets. This separation is beginning to be realised, however, and luckily enough, the Invid among us today are able to enjoy life as well as any other alien specie. |
