FORGED IN BATTLE
A Shrine To The Most Intimate of Relationships
A shock came to my head, my heart, my complete person and emotions in one strike; Suddenly, it became so clear as to how the world is truly forged: The relationships that are built in battle are the greatest of all.
The love between a man and a woman is one thing, but alas, it can never surpass the bonds that are made between a man and a man. Two people who hold themselves in honour and must defend themselves; Two people whose goal in existence is to prove themselves most worthy; Warriors who find that, in all that they live for, there is only one other...he on the end of my sword, and I on the end of his.
Rivalry is a weak term, for it does not explain the way that they feel about each other. There is a mutual respect, but inevitably an undeniable hatred. There is competition in all that has been or will ever be done, for these men's eyes have locked before, and when their heads nod in silent acknowledgement, the war begins on the battlefield of life itself.
SERIES:The Candidate For Goddess
At the GOA training institute, there aren't many chances to achieve the coveted position of a pilot of a Goddess machine, but there are many young boys who desire to fill that role. Until coming to GOA, Hiead Gner and Zero Enna had no knowledge of each other's existence, but suddenly, placed in the same enviornment of classrooms, training fields, and graphics simulations, they find themselves the only two in attendance who achieve high ratings. Soon, the position for Goddess loses its exclusive status as the ultimate goal: Hiead strives forward with a stoic battlefield stare, and Zero releases a passionate battlecry when their eyes meet, and neither can allow the other to succeed.
SERIES:AKIRA (manga version)
As young boys, Kaneda and Tetsuo found themselves orphans in the same orphanage. Without parents, they were forced to learn values amongst each other, and to survive emotionally, found that the bonds they needed were those of brothers. With Kaneda's noisily confident demeanour, Tetsuo grew in his own strength...or so he thought. And as the boys grew older, Kaneda's charisma kept him in the spotlight, whereas poor Tetsuo was forced to play second fiddle to his best friend's nature. However, as Tetsuo gains special powers, he too, finds that he can lead a bike gang just as Kaneda has, but with an authority that cannot be questioned. Alas, Kaneda can never see Tetsuo as an equal, and Tetsuo is determined to prove himself--what arises is that, on opposite sides of the street, the personalities of two boys lead Neo-Tokyo's motorcycle gangs into street warfare that is all to jockey the other and prove one's position.
SERIES:Cowboy Bebop
As brothers, they fought side-by-side. A smile. A sword. A pistol. They were two boys who, through separate roads, came to find a place in the Red Dragon gang, and together, they found themselves back-to-back fighting rival gangs, but always, always, was that other person there. However, Spike began to see that a life in a criminal organisation would inevitably destroy him, and left the group; Vicious, eternally vigilant, held his code of lifetime service to the group. And the twin dragons separated, developing their fangs on different meat, with Vicious becoming cold-hearted and cruelly violent yet respected, and Spike turning to a life that gave his soul room for compassion and understanding. But in the end, the common past could never allow the two to be separated, and a fated shared glance between the two reopened wounds that could never be closed. Their methods now different, the battle must finally be put to rest, with each forever aware of their common blood.
SERIES:Final Fantasy VIII
Orphaned at an early age, with parents dead as the result of war, two young boys found that the event which gave them birth would inevitably become their life. As children, the apathetic glare of Squall would pull from the joys of egocentric Seifer, and in his rage, would fight the quiet one only to find that, behind his cool exterior lay the heart of a lion. When they began schooling, both boys signed-up as SeeD soldiers, and by a seeming fate, both decided to follow the same training as Gunblade wielders. But as Squall maintained his position as a dutiful soldier, Seifer desired the glory that only a lone soldier could gain, without the hinderance of military duty. In their past battles, blood has been drawn, and with each look in the mirror, one can see the other, reflecting scars across their faces a constant reminder of the other who will never vanish.
SERIES:Mobile Suit Gundam SEED
In a world where everyone has become critical of a child's birth, two boys found that the reason why others held distrust to their existence was the same as to why they should become friends. As biologically-enhanced humans capable of processing code in seconds, Athrun and Kira fought to find their niche in society, and together, they lost any thoughts of the rioting crowds outside. But while Athrun decided to join a rebel group that embraced his existence, Kira found that, despite ordinary humans' biases, they were no different from each other. And when these boys discover that on the other side of a mobile suit control scheme is the friend that they embrace, they engage in a struggle for supremacy, desperate to protect what they love, but forced to make the decision between the value of a friend and the value of a people.
SERIES:Mobile Suit Gundam
In all of time, there has perhaps never been a struggle between two men more legendary than that shared between these two. What began as a confused schoolboy pulled into a war with a charismatic army Colonel surpassed all battlefield words--and in battle after battle, blood was boiled as each man used all of his abilities to combat the other, and yet, neither could prove superior. Equals in war...and equals in love... Passion for the purposes of their fighting would endure only so long, until the mere sight of the other on the battlefield meant that all others cleared a way. There would never be anything that could stand between Char Aznable and Amuro Ray, two men whose constant conflict developed a mutual respect surpassing all others, while never allowing a single thought of concession.
Thanks and gratitude to Rachel Young, whose artwork of Hiead Gner surpassed anything else that could be found on the Internet.
