The Team America Rocketry Competition is a competition sponsored by the AIA (Aerospace Industries Association and NAR (Narional Association of Rocketry) for High-school students to launch a two stage rocket to 1500 ft. The rocket must carry two eggs and an altimeter safely to the this height and back to the ground. Sadly, out rocket launch failed to achieve this task. The first stage worked marvelously. The engine ignited sending the rocket about 1000 ft. The rocket left a nearly perfectly straight smoke trail. The second stage however did not do so well...it never ignited. So, instead of sending the upper portion of the rocket even higher, the upper portion tipped over after a few feet and then slammed into the ground with a howling sound leaving only the fins visible poking out of the ground. We had to have the aid of four people with shovels to retrieve it out of the hard clay. Now all I am left with is the experience itself, a pile of expensive junk, and a couple of photos. Since I could spend hours and numerous websites just to explain the experience and the knowledge we gained from it, I will only display the photographs at this point. |
