Images of Curious Aircraft
The Flying Flea
The Flying Flea (Pou du Ciel) is a curious little aircraft. The Flying Flea can be considered the first ultralight since Henry Mignet, its designer, sought it to be easy enough to construct and fly for anyone. It was so simple to operate that it used only a two-axis control strick and lacked rudder peddals. Although it was designed in 1934, it is still very popular. Plans can be purchased from the Flying Flea Archives USA.
The Cri-Cri
The cri-cri is my personal favorite. It was originally a french design with two small gasoline engines. Then it was fitted with two Jet L.T.D Cobra jet engines to be the world's smallest jet.
The Aerocar is a car that has attachable wings to allow it to both drive legally on a road and fly in the air like any other airplane. But, I am sure its odd appearance will turn more heads than any other airplane. It was designed by Molt Taylor with a 150 h.p. Lycoming engine to power both the wheels and propeller. For more information on this particular plane and even plans that can be printed out for a paper model, please visit the Aerocar site.

ONR-CIA
At first this plane may look like any other ordinary plane. Yet, the photo on the bottom right shows why it deserves to be in my collection of curious aircraft. The entire aircraft is inflatable. It was developed in the 1950's in part by goodyear as an airplane that can be easily transported for use in the armed forces.
