history of WESTERN CAPE
  
The Province of the Western Cape is situated in the most southerly corner of South Africa, having a coastal zone bordered by both the Atlantic & the Indian Ocean. Known as the "Cape of Storms"


CAPE OF STORMS
  
The requirements of early mariners to establish a supply & refreshment station for passing ships - a settlement grew and became a colony. The Western Cape played an important role in the history of South & Southern Africa. It's devided into 8 areas:

CAPE METROPOLE
Between the mountain's looming crags & Table Bay's deep blue sweep lies South Africa's Mother City. It's the cosmopolitan hub of the Western Cape, namely Cape Town.

THE WINELANDS
This is situated in the heart of the Western Cape and it's a true 365 day a year destination.

THE WEST COAST
The West Coast sub-region is a cultural mix of museums, monuments & beautiful coastal wild flowers, across green hills.

THE OVERBERG
A fertile area surrounded by sea & mountains - Simply called The Overberg.

BREEDE RIVER VALLEY
A heavily cultivated region, graced with orchards, vineyards & wheatlands. Mountains surrounding it, with high peaks covered with snow in wintertime.

KLEIN KAROO KANNALAND
 A narrow valley constrained by rugged mountains with desert, broken by lush river valleys.

CENTRAL KAROO
One of the world's unique arid zones. "Karoo" is the Hottentot word for "dry thirstland".

THE GARDEN ROUTE
 Dominated by a mediterranean climate & vegetation, with Amazonian jungles.
