history of GAUTENG

 
Gauteng is the smallest of the Provinces in South Africa, but is the central access route by air
for all international tourism. It has been the seat of 4 Governments, including the current ANC.


PRETORIA the heart of GAUTENG

 
This city owes it's origin to Marthinus Wessel Pretorius who founded it in 1855. He was named after
his father, Andries Pretorius, a hero of the Battle of Blood River. The countries executive & administrative capital, namely Pretoria, is situated here. Gauteng is devided in 5 areas:

northern GAUTENG
Today this area is dominated by the city of Pretoria.

eastern GAUTENG
Formely known as the East Rand. It's set up to serve the mine industry.

WESTERN GAUTENG
Mrs. Ples, the 2,2 million year-old archaeological pride, was found here. 

CENTRAL GAUTENG
This is the centre of the web of roads that radiates to Gauteng's many destinations.

SOUTHERN GAUTENG
The Vaal River is found here. It's a long, meandering water system, is a natural border between
Gauteng & the Free State Region.
