| About Wicca Taken from various sources: Glossary of Earth, Air, Fire, Water by Scott Cunningham pg 211: Wicca: A contemporary polytheistic religion with spiritual roots in the earliest expressions of reverence for nature as a manifestation of the divine. In other words, Wicca is a modern religion built around reverence for a Goddess and a God, which created all that exists, including the Earth. Wicca also embraces the practice of Magic as a tool of personal and global transformation, and usually teaches the doctrine of reincarnation. Many Wiccans identify with the word witch. |
| Children of the Star is a website we decided to make about magic. Real magic. Children of the Star is here to answer any questions you have, to inform you of the truth, to help you with whatever you need, and so on and so on. This is kind of like an on-line coven also! We hope that those who are here can learn a bit of history and realize that the witch stereotypes are not true. We hope that you will be able to learn a few things and that we will be able to learn as well. We are not necassarily trying to teach you how to become a witch or trying to change your views on things for that matter. There are, however, a few pages with our own spells and thoughts that we have written. First off, we want you to know that we don't beleive in trying to push any of our religion on you. Not that we necassarily consider this to be our religion, just that it's nice to have something to fall back on when you can't possibly fathom how God did something. We beleive that everyone has their own path for each life and that this just happens to be ours. Magic...What is magic? According to Webster's dictionary, magic is "The creation of illusions; sleight of hand; performance of tricks; sorcery." Magic is so much more than just sleight of hand! Magic is all around you, you are constantly being surrounded by magic. You yourself and everything aroud you is part of the earth's network of magic. "Wicca is a forest in the light of the silvery moon, It is a glade, enhanced by the light of the fae, It is a dew drop on the petals of a flower inboom And the softness of the winter snow upon the Earth. It is the light, The shadow, And all that lies between. To be a witch is to be a healer, a teacher, And a protector of all things, living and live. ~Author unknown Wicca is the religious form of witchcraft. Just practicing witchcraft isnt the same as being Wicca, although the followers of the religion of wicca use the term witchcraft to describe their religion. (And some who just practice witchcraft say they are wiccan to explain them.) The word "witchcraft" means "the craft of the wise" People used to like witches- they were the healers or doctors of the village or town. Suddenly people began accusing women- usually unmarried, old, ugly, or deformed- of casting evil spells. Now the name witch has a bad reputation that we intend to break. We understand that there are some who misuse their craft, but what is there to do? We cannot change the way they want to act, especially after it has already been done. We honor the earth and all its creatures. We celebrate the changes of the seasons and all the "mysteries" of nature around us. We direct our craft toward achieving good and becoming a better person. We do not commit blood sacrifices, worship the devil, pursue destructive ends, or reject any religion. Witches and Pagans have a specific reason for being religous: to become a better person. Most religions have many texts on what it takes to be a good person. Pagans, however, believe the following: Do what you want as long as it harms none including yourself. This means that as long as you do no harm to anyone or anything,it doesn't matter what you do. Harm here is defined by anything. Christian witches are people who believe in God and the salvation of Jesus Christ, yet they also believe in the power of magic and the internal energy. We ourselves are Christian witches. |
