Good Aries or Evil Aries?
We all have an evil twin lurking within us. I�m not talking about that part of you that took over when you cheated on that test, �forgot� to return that awesome t-shirt your friend loaned you, or called in sick so you could go skiing. I�m talking about those times when your instincts are wrong for the situation.
Each of the 12 zodiac signs has its own personality profile. These profiles list characteristics that people from each sign are supposed to possess. As an Aries, I am supposed to be (and I am) action oriented, goal oriented, and decisive, with a tendency to jump in and take risks. Sounds great, doesn�t it? In a lot of ways it is great. These qualities are often good for business, for getting things started, in emergency situations, and at those times in life when things are really rough and you have to be strong and positive in order to overcome. Those are the times when I shine. But what happens when I get into a situation where what�s called for is patience, contemplation, and peaceful acceptance? What am I supposed to do then, bring in a Libra stunt personality?
The evil side of the Aries personality is impatience, rashness, selfishness, and recklessness. When a friend tells me his or her problems, I instantly want to solve them, and begin pointing out all the reasons my friend has for not being unhappy. This can cause the friend to get frustrated and repeatedly say, �but that won�t work because...� He or she feels like I am not sympathetic. Maybe my friend just needs me to listen.
When I am unhappy with my job, I instantly want to find a new job. My Aries drive and optimism tells me that finding a new job will be an exciting challenge and that the new job I find will be better than the last. What if I�m throwing away a good thing by taking that route? Maybe I should just hang in there and slowly help things to get better, instead of throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Sometimes I need to take the time to truly contemplate the different aspects of a problem before jumping to a quick �solution.�
Being goal oriented is the major defining trait of an Aries, along with a flame-thrower type energy. Problems develop, I think, when the Aries person is mistaken about what the goal actually is. When my friend is telling me his or her problems, maybe the goal is not to solve the problems at that time, but to be a good friend and a good listener. Maybe, sometimes when I�m unhappy with my job, the goal isn�t to find a better job, but to help my company become a better company.
Whatever my best quality is, it is also my worst quality, because it is my strongest quality. Everyone�s personality traits have the potential to be good or evil, depending on the situation. I have to make sure I am clear on what my goals are in each situation. What do I ultimately want the outcome to be? When I am old, what kind of life do I want to look back on?
