Why the A4?

 audirings.gif (2385 bytes)

Cars I considered before the A4 and why I turned them down

VW New Beetle GLX

VW Passat GLS

VW Jetta GLX

Lexus IS300

Lexus ES300 BMW 323i Infiniti G20 Toyota Camry XLE

VW New Beetle GLX- At first, I was really infected with "Bug Fever".  To this day, I still think the "Bug" is a really cool car and like the A4, it is a car I could really "get into".  The MAIN reason I did not get the Beetle is because in all honesty, I needed a four-door car (what would my friends think of a guy who made them crunch into a back seat designed for 5 year-olds.   Also, the Beetle engine I wanted (1.8T like the A4) was in HOT demand and "Turbo Bugs" were as hard to find as a Pelican Blue A4 (Enthusiasts will know what i'm saying :-).  So, until next time Bug.

VW Passat GLS- Don't get me wrong- VW has a real winner with the Passat.   I took a test drive and got several impressions.  The Passat is a family car- much more than the A4 anyway... spacious back seats, dedicated engine, good highway cruiser-  not really for me.  I want a car that I can really get into (as I said above).  The A4 is a sports sedan, the Passat is just a sedan- much more feel of the road and handling in the A4.  Overall though, it is a good car.

VW Jetta GLX- Two ideas came to mind when (as VW calls it) I "met" the Jetta.  The closest VW to an A4 and SMALL.  If you think the A4 is tight in the back- this car is TIGHT in the front.  Nice car though, but just not right... can't really say why.

Lexus IS300- All in all, both of my parent's drive Lexuses.  A Lexus is a Japanese car... never breaks down, does not have a spirit- a true car.  Besides the fact this car was five months from release when I was in the market... it already seemed out of my price range.  Now that the release is days away- it looks like a fine automobile but, I am very happy with my Audi.

Lexus ES300- Can you say 55 year-old man who loves a GOOD car.  Not a car for a high school junior.  I'm sure it's a good car though.

BMW 323i- AWESOME car, funds were insufficient- I HIGHLY recommend it though!  By the way, no handling in rain or snow!

Infiniti G20- I seriously considered this car.  I was willing to overlook the fact that it had no character, but I had already been to 5 car dealerships and I wanted to go see the A4.  Once again, a nice car but not for me- can't say why.

Toyota Camry XLE- I was misinformed when I even considered a Camry.  I'm just not ready for a family yet. :-)

Why the A4?

A real enthusiast's car- As I mentioned above, the A4 is a car a person can really become obsessed with.  I admit it, my name is Mike- and i'm an Audiholic.   The A4 has numerous companies dedicated to making it a better car than it already is.

Great Warranty- Very few car companies offer free scheduled maintenance for 3 years/50,000 miles- whichever comes first. This really sold me as I did not want to spend hundreds of dollars every 5k miles.  The Audi Advantage sells a lot of people.

Great Looks- Compared to the other cars (besides the Beetle), the A4 has the best design of all the other choices.

Exclusive- The A4 is not a car you see in every other driveway, unlike the Honda Accord, Audi is not a manufacturer that is incredibly popular in the United States.   Although most say a silver A4 is not rare at all, try finding 1 Melange A4 in a month and you'll be very lucky.
