Click the ball to registerWe opened registration in January 2002 and found almost 20 young ruggers interested in spring rugby.
Emails/phone
calls will be sent out shortly to those who expressed interest. We are hoping for at least 30 to join. If you have interest in playing or signing
up children please email [email protected]
or call 703-760-9837 for more information.
The
cost of registration will be $75.00 each.
While
rugby is not a very expensive sport per individual there are costs associated
with managing a league and any donations or sponsors are welcome. Estimated costs to start a youth program
range from $1500 – $5000 depending on participation. We expect about 30 participants initially. Therefore we will need approximately $1800
to purchase jerseys, flags, balls, cones, ball bags, paint for lining fields,
goal pads, referees, etc. So please
think about sponsoring or donating to youth rugby. Thank you.
We
are looking for coaches… we will train you in the non-contact rules…rugby
experience not necessary but preferred for coaching. Other administrative offices will be available and we can always
use help.
The McLean Youth U-12 Rugby Union will be established in
April of 2002. The union hopes to start with two teams and then expand to
many more to offer children from ages 7-12 a chance to play rugby. The
kids in the union range from 7 and 8 up to 12 years of age. Over 13 can
play on the U-19 side. The kids play by
the rules established by United States Rugby Football Union, which is touch
based rules. Participants will learn how to pass and catch the ball; learn
punting, dropkicking, and place kicking skills; while learning the laws and
strategies involved in team play. Children will be grouped by age and teams
will be formed for games. All the teams will be based out of MYI. The
season begins in April and runs through Early June.
