Climbing the stairs in the castle was quite a trip!  We climbed to the top of the tower where most of the beams supporting the tower roof were the original beams.  Twice a year they spray the whole castle to preserve the wood from insects.
Hoensbroek Castle is the largest and best preserved castle between the Maas and the Rhine.  The castle was built in the 13 th. century, altho many parts of the castle that date from this century have vanished.  The oldest part of the castle is the round tower, which was built in the 14 th century.
