New York, the capital of the world.

There is a saying that while Washington D.C. may be the capital of the United States, New York City would be equivalent to the capital of the world. I am totally convinced with such acclamation based on my wholehearted experience.

A tour around New York was scheduled in our vision trip program and the stay for a few days in the great city has given me much to see and contemplate. The first thing that struck my head was the vastness and eminence of the great city. The city is renowned for its economical, cultural, symbolical and political fortes. The terror and tragedy of 9.11, the soaring sky scraper forest in Manhattan, the flow of joy in Broadway, the bullish stock market of Wall-street, the ever famous time square, the statue of liberty, central park, the refuge of the hurt minds of New Yorkers and so on are just a few of the evidence which support my claim. New York is truly an indisputable place of pouring excitement.

Nevertheless, what I see as the strongest of New Yorks numerous fortes in being a world capital is the United Nations(UN) head quarters. UN has its secondary head quarters in Geneva, Switzerland, but its main head quarters is located in New York City, USA. Besides the spectacular external architecture of the building, I have learned a great deal of the UN in a guided tour. An excellent experience it was for me to view the UN in a different, rather positive prospective. My initial impression from the UN was that it was a remote and weak organization, solely defined by its American-hood. The American-oriented, totally unilateral Iraqi war espoused my side. However, the UNs numerous projects for the new incoming millennium such as exterminating famine, diseases, landmines, colonization, and its painstaking effort to it convinced me to recognize the UN as a peace advocating, active organization. I also came to realize that the misfortunate war in Iraq was to be inspected and oriented by the UN forces but was denied by China. Though blocked by a countrys veto right, this revealed the effort of the UN to actually interact in the warfare to conserve world peace. It furthermore gave me a will to participate in the activities of the UN and develop a sense of leadership not only restricted to my own country but also opened to the world society.

The experience in New York City, and more exclusively in the UN headquarters has gave me a whole new spirit of hope and alacrity for the future of the human race, and the city of New York, the capital of the world, as the harbinger of that reformation. I am looking forward to working or supporting the UN with my whole strength and wisdom, for the true leader does not limit himself to a mere personal goal but a world wide, broad issue and problems.
