How I got my A+

(this is not an actual situation ^^)

Dear Mr. Johnson, I received my A because of many surrounding factors. My class with Mr. Williams in the preliminary session, your books of recommendation, the clear files, and my efforts have together accomplished this unbelievable grade.

In the incoming class, my English teacher was Mr. Williams, a man of insight, intelligence, and humor. His truthful statements on the school helped me realize the real life in KMLA, thus preparing me for the real semester. His insightful debating classes were a pleasure as well. The class discussed about the books we read before our entrance. It helped me develop a refined creativity as well as an enlightened logic. Overall, his class has shown my potential of being a good writer, a proficient English speaker.

You have recommended some books to our class. Of those few books, a particular reference book, Strunk&White was crucial in my success. That book corrected my writing in terms of false use of language, punctuation and so forth. My Achilles heel, punctuation, was successfully healed and empowered. Other books were greatly beneficial as well, but I would like to stress the importance of that particular book in my grades.

Not only did your books help me, but your whole curriculum and teaching style do, as well. Your free teaching style, encouraging us to teach ourselves has made us independent from numerous restraints that kept our thoughts from becoming real and alive. Especially, the clear file policy was a major cause in my improvements. I would be revised and discuss the flaws and drawbacks of my writings. Every time a writing or essay would slide into the empty plastic bag of the clear file, my writing acquired another precious improvement. And since your classs grade comprised much of writing, I have been able to get a better score.

My English score in KMLA was relatively poor. My SAT verbal scores were particularly a drawback. Many of my friends were rather resigned with their scores, while I was given a shot in the arm. I began writing many personal essays, asking for revisions and corrections. I had bought a whole bunch of SAT 1 books including Barrons, KAPLAN, Princeton Review, Petersons. I decided to memorize the 3500 word list in the Barrons book and am presently in progress. My poor grades were a stimuli to my success, needless to say.

Looking back, my unbelievable success in your class was in fact no surprise, for these situation and numerous factor were encouraging my victory. I must thank all of my roommates who were cooperative at all times, and Mr. Johnson, yourself; and my ex-teacher. Mr. Williams; and many others.
