puppies, continued

August 21 update (17 days old) - The puppies are changing every day.  Their eyes are open and they are starting to walk and play with each other.  It's funny to see them practicing their walking.  Now that they are walking, the puppycam should be getting more exciting.  Next week we'll be adding a play area onto the whelping box...a couple puppies are already trying to escape.

August 14 update (10 days old) - The babies are getting so big; most of their weights have doubled.  Their eyes aren't open yet, but you can teel that they will be soon.  They had their toenails cut for the first time yesterday (8/13)--all 162 toes.  It was  pretty easy since they were asleep.

The Big Day - The puppies started arriving at 3:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 4th, with the last born around 11:00 a.m.  We had Abby's whelping box set up, but she had other ideas.  We woke up to newborn puppy cries in the middle of the night.  When we tried to move Abby to her whelping box, she wouldn't stay.  So...we gave in and she had 8 of the 9 puppies next to our bed.  The final count:  9 babies-6 girls and 3 boys.  Mother and babies are all doing great.  I've identified the puppies with different colored ribbons.
