The Gemini Build

The car now had a bare belly, so i took advantage of this and wire wheeled all of our rust repairs clean on the floor and moulded the steel repair patches in with body filler - and sanded them down to mould them in. I also filled a couple of the big spot welds in too. The whole floor was given a nice fine coat of semi gloss black steinslag - a sort of anti chip coat. The finish was superb and it really sets of the suspension well.

At this stage I had planned to go to Melbourne - as i had organised it months prior, my tickets were booked and about 6 of us were going. If i had known that 3 weeks before the Extreme Horspower show we would still have to fit the motor, paint it, paint the gearbox, clean up the rear suspension, prime it, paint it and refit it - let alone detail the car, i wouldn't have booked it! What was i to do? Well, i left the work in dad's capable hands. I left on Friday morning, and when i returned on Sunday night, the whole rear suspension, was in and painted to perfection! Even the brakes were bled! Now that is a mammoth effort by anyones standards and all this on his own too.

The same colours were chosen for the rear too. Fortunately i had already hand polished the torque tube a few weeks before! This was done in the same manor as the steering rack - as they are both alloy.

The gearbox was going to be polished. I did start it, but it was plain obvious that if i was going to get the finish i wanted, i would never have made the show! So it was rubbed down with 320 and painted silver - with a dash of blue pearl just for a change.

Well that was the undercarriage done to a standard that i thought appropriate for a clean street car. Now it was time to finish the bay and detail the car! Lets just say that it was 2 weeks of 8 hrs at work and then work on the car til 3 am. So come eve of the show, dad and i were f&*ked. We were looking forward to the show so we could have a rest!

That day at the show, the set up day, dad and i spent from 9 am til 7 pm straight, detailing the shit out of that car. I even painted inside the exhaust pipe blue to match the suspension. The engine was clean enough to eat off. I have pics of the bay somewhere so stay tuned for when i post them on here.
