Howdy!

I really like your Gorillaz site, so I decided to contribute to it...  More work
for you, yay!  Anyways, below is my CD for the Gorillaz' self-titled album (made
with love).  If you post it, thanks.

The Review:

If not for MTVs MTV2 sampler week, I would have probably never heard of the
Gorillaz.  They get little airtime on radio and TV, at least here in the US.  I
caught the video for Clint Eastwood back in June 01 a couple times.  In August,
I finally got the CD, and how glad that made me.  It remained in my CD player
for 3 weeks straight, and its playing as I type this.
Boring intro aside  Gorillaz is a unique blend of hip hop, rock, and dub
reggae, with an electronic edge.  They pull it off quite nicely too.  Their
self-titled debut album features 17 tracks, plus a hidden remix of Clint
Eastwood.  There is something for everyone on this CD.  Re-Hash, 19-2000
and Slow Country have light, reggae-type melodies that are fun to listen to
while driving.  Each one is relaxing without being dull.  5/4, Punk, and
M1A1 are more upbeat, rock songs.  M1A1 in particular is loud and more
traditional sounding than most songs on the CD, and 5/4 reminds me of the
older style rock.  Hip hop fans can enjoy Clint Eastwood, Rock The House,
and possibly even Left Hand Suzuki Method.  The tracks New Genius (Brother),
Man Research (Clapper), Sound Check (Gravity), Double Bass, Starshine,
and Dracula are all awesome tracks with a dark, semi-ambient sound.  Great for
late night listening.  Finally, Latin Simone (Que Pasa Contigo), which is sang
by Ibrahim Ferrer, seems to come out of no where.  Its like a lounge song of
sorts  But a good one.  As for the hidden Clint Eastwood (Ed Case Refix), it
gives you something to dance to.
A lot of work clearly went into this album, with 18 tracks, over 70 minutes of
music, theres a Gorillaz song for every occasion.  I liked every song on this
CD, a rarity for me, and seven months after purchase I can still enjoy its
abstract sounds and haunting vocals.  Stop reading and go buy this CD now!
