NASARIO BENAVIDEZ
US Army Air Force
World War II
1942-1945
My father lived in Eagle Pass at the time that he entered the service.  He was inducted on November 10, 1942 through Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas.  He entered service on November 22, 1942 as a duty soldier in the United States Army, Air Force Division.  At that time, the Air Force was basically a fledgling organization operating under the Army.

He served one year and five months in the United States, and then a year and seven months in foreign service in the Aleutian Islands, located in the Pacific Ocean between Russia and Alaska.

During his service he was injured in an on-the-job accident in which a small explosion damaged the tip of the middle finger of his left hand.

He received three overseas bars, American Theater, Asiatic-Pacific Theater, a Bronze Star, Victory Medal, and Good Conduct Medal.

He was honorably discharged as a Private First Class in the 462nd Army Air Forces Base Unit, Camp Pine Dale out of Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.
