| Love Like a Rose She stood atop the staircase listening as he played his song so sweetly, and as their eyes did meet by chance, they fell in love completely. It had the fragrance of a rose, the love that had been born. But as they drew it close to them, the rose would show its thorn. She was blue-eyed, sweet and gentle; he was tall, and dark, and strong. How could two who were so different share a love that some thought wrong? Through her window, one starry night she fled her father's home. United then, before the Lord, they built a life their own. Years of pain would come and go; her father's heart was hardened. And not until his dying day would she then be pardoned. Whatever made them take such chance no on really knows. But love can surely draw you in like the fragrance of a rose. by Norma (Benavidez) Ebbitt |
