At a concert Freddie Mercury would work tirelessly and passionately until he felt that he had captured every member of the audience. And it must have been a wonderful sight as thousands of fans sang with him and swayed unison to Queen songs. His performances could mesmerise crowds all over the world. Although Freddie preferred the word "communicate". His performances was always full of dramatic gestures, elegance and pathos. A very unique style as Freddie wanted to incorporate drama and dance into the stage show. The outfits was also very important. He wore, rare stuff such as satin, catsuits, fur coats, velvet trousers, tights and ballet pumps. Freddie once said: "I don´t do it to shock people, it´s just like theatre". As a great fan of ballet he wanted to incorporate ballet into the rock scene. Freddie was a huge fan of the Royal ballet and knew lots about it. He had many friends among the dancers. One of his friends was Wayne Sleep. And among Freddie´s favourite dancers was Briony Brind.
When the Royal ballet were organizing a special performance to raise money for Mentally Handicapped children. Freddie was asked to dance a piece. He had never done ballet before, but was keen to try it. The show took place at London Colloseum. Afterwards Freddie said: "I wasn´t quite Baryshnikow, whom I absolutely adore, but it wasn´t for an ageing beginner". "When I first saw Baryshnikov on stage I was so in awe I felt like a groupie" Freddie´s favourite performance was A month in the country. As well as the ballet for Romeo and Juliet. His love for ballet was shown in the video for the song "I want to break free". Choreographer= Wayne Eagling.
