CUT TO: EXT. CORRUTHER'S HOUSE - MORNING Tommy walks up to the door and commences to knocking. INT. CORRUTHER'S HOUSE We follow in through the living room. Pictures of Mom, Dad, Jamie and Rachel adorn the walls. We follow up the stairs as the KNOCKING continues and into... INT. RACHEL'S ROOM Rachel puts on her shoes and gets to stepping. INT. LIVING ROOM Rachel heads for the door when she hears THONK! from the kitchen. Then a sound like a door slowly creaking open. A look of fear flashes over her face, then she shakes it away. She refuses to live her life in fear. She heads for the kitchen. INT. KITCHEN Rachel enters to see the door cracked open. She quickly walks over to it and shuts and locks it. A footstep behind her and she nearly jumps out of her skin. She spins around. TOMMY Whoa, girl. Sorry. You weren't answering, so I got the key you have hidden outside and showed myself in. RACHEL It's all right. I was a little late getting up, so I was still getting ready when you where knocking. You ready? TOMMY Indeed. Let's go. RACHEL Let's walk. It's a nice day. TOMMY Halloween. They head out to the living room and out the front door. EXT. CORRUTHER'S HOUSE Rachel and Tommy walk hand and hand down the street and we follow them along. We follow them for a ways then the camera stops at a tree and they get farther away. In a STING OF MUSIC, TWO COVERALL COVERED LEGS step into frame from behind the tree. The legs start following the happy couple. CUT TO: INT. POLICE STATION - MEEKER'S OFFICE Meeker opens up the door and in enters DEPUTY DANIEL BROCK, a young officer of about 28 years old. BROCK Wanted to see me chief? He looks and sees DR. LOOMIS standing in the back of the office. MEEKER Yeah, Daniel. We have a situation. BROCK What do you need me to do? Meeker indicates Loomis. MEEKER This is Doctor Sam Loomis. Dr. Loomis, Deputy Daniel Brock. Loomis comes around and shakes Brock's hand. BROCK Pleasure to meet you, Doctor. MEEKER Brock is my finest deputy, Doc. He'll see that you have what you need. BROCK Is something wrong here? I mean, I know who Dr. Loomis is, who in this town doesn't? But... uh... what's the deal? MEEKER Dr. Hoffman, the admistrator of Smith's Grove, was brutally murdered last night. We believe Michael Myers may return. Brock is shocked. BROCK Michael Myers? Back? MEEKER That's right. And I need you to see to the needs of this man right here. I would do it, but I need to be here, running the force itself, in case anything comes up. Anything the Doctor wants, he gets. Got it? BROCK Yes, sir. MEEKER I trust you, Danny. You know as officers of the law that we have an obligation to bring in any criminals. BROCK Of course. MEEKER I want you to ignore that obligation. For me. For this town. BROCK Sir? MEEKER Upon apprehension of Michael Myers, do not.. I repeat, do NOT attempt to arrest him. A beat as Meeker's features set in stone. MEEKER Kill him. BROCK Just like that? Kill him? MEEKER He is a menace. Worse. He is a Monster. LOOMIS There is no hope for him. The only way any of us can be safe is to kill him. No jail can hold him, no asylum. His death is our only hope. BROCK From what I hear, he's pretty tough to kill. LOOMIS He is that. But we must at least try to stop him once and for all. CUT TO: INT. SQUAD CAR - DAY Loomis sits in the passenger seat and Brock drives. It's getting to be late afternoon and Loomis has an air of impatience about him. Brock decides to break the ice. BROCK Why do you do it? LOOMIS What? This? BROCK Everytime this madman comes around, you are always there. I mean, it's got to take a lot out of a guy. LOOMIS You wouldn't begin to understand. BROCK I wouldn't, huh? Let me guess, he was your patient, you cared for him all those years, trying valiantly, but ultimately in vain to reach him, and what do you have to show for it? A mile's worth of bodies. Must be hard to sleep at night sometimes, knowing that he was YOUR patient. LOOMIS And it must be easy to point your finger like that. BROCK Hit a nerve, huh? Rest easy, Doctor, I'm not pointing fingers, I'm just trying to get a handle on your obsession. It's as if you see him as your responsiblilty. LOOMIS Perhaps I do see him that way. As you pointed out, he was my patient. It was my job to help him, to reach him. Yet I failed. I neglegted a lot of my loved ones trying to understand that boy. One day, years ago, it occured to me. You can never truly understand pure evil. Or even think about reaching through it to the man Michael Myers never even was. BROCK Pure evil, huh? Damn, you sound like one of those characters from those old 50s horror movies. Calling someone pure evil is a bold statement, don't you think? LOOMIS After you've spent time with Michael, you will realize how accurate a statement it is. There is nothing bold about it, thouh I wish it were. BROCK So, since you can't held him, you feel as though you can at least try to put a stop to his evil. Loomis glances at Brock, genuinely suprised that he seems to understand him so well. LOOMIS Yes. Something like that. BROCK Don't look so shocked. It's a familiar story, one I'm a bit too familiar with. Anyone with any kind of human emotions would feel the way you feel about it. It's why I'm so good as a cop. I'm not the best cop on Ben Meekers force because I'm the smartest or that I'm the best with a gun, but because there's a little 10 year old girl resting in a cemetary just east of town because of a misstep I made on a case two years ago. LOOMIS I'm sorry to hear that. BROCK Yeah, may little Casey Brock rest in peace. Loomis' eyebrows raise at the mention of the girl's name. BROCK Little sister. Loomis nods his head in understanding. BROCK Well, now that we have the pleasantries and the unpleasantries out of the way, let's see if we can put our two obsessed brains and brawn together and bring this bastard down. LOOMIS Let's indeed. BROCK Miss Corruthers' house is coming up just around the corner. EXT. CORRUTHERS' HOUSE - DAY Brock's squad car pulls up to the front curb. After a couple of seconds, the doors open and Brock and Loomis step out. They head towards the front door and Brock gives it a knock. BROCK Hello! He knocks again. No answer. BROCK Miss Rachel Corruthers? Daniel Brock of the Haddonfield police. He continues to knock. BROCK Sheriff Meeker sent me and I'm here with Dr. Sam Loomis. Still no answer. BROCK Doesn't seem to be anyone home. LOOMIS No there doesn't. He knocks. LOOMIS Rachel?! Is anyone home?! It's Dr. Loomis. BROCK Maybe she's somewhere where she can't hear. LOOMIS Maybe. There's a back door behind the house that leads to the kitchen. BROCK Okay, you go check out the back door and I'll look a bit around the house, make sure no spooks are spooking around. LOOMIS Probably a good idea. BROCK Meet you back around here if no-one's home. LOOMIS Will do. Loomis head's around the house. We follow Brock as he makes his way around the other side. Brock checks out the yard on the side of the house and there's not much to see. A few bushes separate Rachel's house from the next door neighbors. RUSTLE RUSTLE Brock tenses and gets down in a firing stance, putting his hand on his sidearm. The rustling came from the bushes. RUSTLE RUSTLE Again! Brock slowly makes his way toward the bushes. BROCK Anybody over there? If so, slowly make your way out and show yourselves. RUSTLE RUSTLE He draws his gun. BROCK Haddonfield police. Please show yourselves at once. Without warning a HUGE SHAPE burst forth from the bushes and Brock almost fires until he sees that it's the shape of a Lassie looking Collie rushing towards him. He breathes out a sigh of relief and kneels down to pet the dog. BROCK Hey girl, do you belong to Rachel. Another rustle and Brock looks up to see Rachel's next door neighbor RUSSEL, a man in his sixties, step through the bush. RUSSEL Nope, she belongs to me. C'mon, girl, get out of the neighbor's yard. BROCK Excuse me, sir, but do you happen to know if Rachel Corruthers is in right now? RUSSEL Seems like I saw her leave a little bit earlier with that fiance of hers. They ain't in any trouble, are they? BROCK No, sir. Just need to ask them a few questions about something, that's all. RUSSEL That's good. She's a sweet girl and she's had a rough time of it past few years. It's good to see she's gettin' some happiness back in her life. BROCK I agree. Thanks for your help, sir. RUSSEL Not a problem. He whistles once again for his dog, and they both make their way through the bushes to their home. Brock makes his way to the back of the house and sees the backdoor, but no sign of Loomis. BROCK (to himself) Prob'ly already back at the front. We STEADY CAM behind Brock as he makes his way back to the front, going around the opposite side from which he came. As he comes to the front, we still se no sign of Loomis. BROCK Doctor? You around here? Loomis doens't answer. BROCK Yo, Doc! Where are you? Once again, no word form Loomis. Brock is about to start walking around again, when the front door swings open, revealing the good doctor. BROCK How did you get in? Are they home? LOOMIS I found a key hidden by the back door. No one's home and no sign of foul play. BROCK Neighbor said she left earlier with Tommy, who I know, so let's go check over there. Loomis locks the door and closes it. They both get in the cruiser and drive off. CUT TO: INT. RESTARAUNT - DAY Here we find Tommy and Rachel sitting at a table with a group of friends, having a lunch buffet. Joining them are GARY, CONNIE, TERRY BROOKS, and THURMAN BATES. A WAITRESS walks up with a tray of drinks. WAITRESS Who had the sprite? TOMMY Here. WAITRESS Dr. Pepper. TERRY Right here. WAITRESS Pepsi. Connie and Rachel answer at the same time. CONNIE/RACHEL Me. They look at each other and laugh. WAITRESS Water. THURMAN That's me. WAITRESS That must mean you're the Root Beer. She hands the last drink to Gary. GARY Hey, when you don't serve the real deal, I have to settle for second best. The waitress kind of smiles at him. WAITRESS I guess that means I don't get a tip. Gary smiles right back. GARY Hey, that ain't *your* fault. You can expect a nice, shiney, newly minted quarter when I leave. She laughs. WAITRESS Gee, thanks. She walks off and Thurman holds up his glass. THURMAN I tink we should toast. To the last time we all sit down and have lunch with Miss Rachel Corruthers. RACHEL Hey, I ain't going nowhere, babe. THURMAN Won't you let me finish, girl? Anyways, AHEM. Miss Rachel Corruthers will be dead and buried, but will we gladly accept Mrs. Rachel Doyle into our midst. ALL Hear, hear! They all make toasting gestures with their glasses. THURMAN And remember, Tommy, you have to come with me and Gary tomorrow night. RACHEL If there's any strippers involved, we'll just call the whole thing off. GARY It's harmless. After all, Terry needs the extra cash. Terry proceeds to reach over and slug Gary in the arm. TERRY Ass. They all start eating and laughing, with the exception of Rachel, who is listening to a couple of ladies at the table behind them. LADY 1 Where are you going to take Jimmy out for trick or treating tonight? LADY 2 You're joking, right? I haven't let him out of the house on a Halloween night in two years. LADY 1 Let me guess. Michael Myers. LADY 2 You bet. You know, they never found his body. I mean, there's a good chance he's dead, but you never know with him. They've thought him dead before. LADY 1 Poor little Lloyd girl. She used to live in my neighborhood. She was the sweetest thing. I refuse to believe she did those things she was accused of.... We focus back in on the tble and find that Tommy has noticed Rachel's zoning. TOMMY Hey. You all right? Rachel snaps out of it. RACHEL Yeah. Fine. TOMMY Sure? She leans over and gives him a good kiss right in the smacker. RACHEL That convince you? TOMMY Beyond doubt. GARY Guys, please. Other people are present. TERRY Oh, let them have their fun. They laugh and continue eating. The waitress comes and refills their glass. They acknowledge their thanks and when she leaves, Tommy holds up his glass. TOMMY And now, I propose a toast. To those friends and family who can not be there. May they be there in spirit. The mood grows somber as the members of the group acknowledge the toast silently and then take a drink. CUT TO: INT. SQUAD CAR - DAY Loomis and Brock ride down the street to Tommy's house. Outside the squad car's windows, we see people out readying their houses for the night. They pull up to the curb of a small house. LOOMIS There's a vehicle here. BROCK Good, then our luck may have changed. Brock exits the car and Loomis waits in the passenger seat. Loomis looks out the window as Brock makes his way up to the door and knocks. He knocks again after no one answers. Once again, no answer. He turns back to Loomis, shrugs his shoulders and comes back down to the car. The door opens and Brock takes a seat behind the wheel. He thinks for a moment then turns to Loomis. BROCK We really don't have time to play this. LOOMIS What can we do about it. Brock whips out a cell phone and dials a number. BROCK Yes, Liz, can you get me a next of kin for Tommy Doyle. Mother, father, aunt, whatever. I need to speak to them. He turns and smiles at Loomis. BROCK Okay... okay... thanks a bunch Liz, I owe ya dinner. Later. He hangs up on her and dials another number. BROCK Hello, Mrs. Doyle? Yes, this is Daniel Brock with the Haddonfield Police and I was looking for your son.... No ma'am, he's in no trouble at all, I just need to talk to him about something. Yes, ma'am.... Thank you ma'am. He smiles. BROCK Yes, ma'am, I'll tell him hi for you. Thanks a lot. Bye bye, now. He hangs up and makes a YES gesture. LOOMIS Well.... BROCK Well, they were going out to eat with some friends, then Tommy was going to get his tux for the wedding. LOOMIS Tux? Wedding? Don't tell me... BROCK That's right, Tommy Doyle is to wed Rachel Corruthers. November the 4th. Loomis gets a smile at this news. LOOMIS My, my. I knew they were eventually, but I had no idea it was so soon... He loses his smile and sets his mouth in to a grim frown. LOOMIS We should do our best to see that they live to have a happy wedding. Where were they going to eat? BROCK That was a couple of hours ago. My bet is that we'll find them at the "AL'S FORMAL WEAR". LOOMIS Then we should get moving. BROCK Way ahead of ya. EXT. STREET - DAY The car pulls out into the street and zooms down the road. A BLUE CHEVY LUMINA pulls out from across the street and starts to follow them from a unsuspecting distance. CUT TO: EXT. AL'S FORMAL WEAR - DAY A quaint little shop in downtown Haddonfield, Al's is surrounded by an antique store and a small sporting goods shop. INT. AL'S FORMAL WEAR - DAY Gary and Thurman sit, looking kinda bored. GARY Honestly, how long does it take a guy to put a monkey suit on? THURMAN Maybe it's not fitting right. GARY Maybe he doesn't know *how* to put one on. I mean, c'mon, have you ever seen Tommy Doyle get dressed up for anything. This has got to be the first time he's even touched a tux, much less put one on. TOMMY (VO) It was a little weird, but have a little faith in me. We cut angle to see Tommy, standing in front of the dressing room, all decked out in a nice black tux. Thurman and Gary give out wolf wistles. THURMAN Work it, honey! GARY Looking sharp, Tommy D. TOMMY Why, thank you, thank you. AL BENDIS, owner and manager walks up to Tommy. AL Is it satisfactory? TOMMY Indeed it is. Very much satisfactory. AL All right, then. TOMMY I guess I just get back in my other clothes and let you wrap this up. AL That will be just fine. TOMMY Thanks, Al, you did a real good job on it. AL It was nothing. TOMMY Sure it was. This'll probably be the most important piece of clothing I'll ever wear. AL Glad you like it, Tommy. Tommy walks back into the dressing room. THURMAN Now look at him, getting all sentimental. GARY Yeah. Wuss. AL Your suits are ready as well. THURMAN Bring 'em on out. At that moment, Deputy Brock and Dr. Loomis walk in. Al walks over to them. AL Can I help you? BROCK Yes, is Tommy Doyle here? AL In the dressing room. Brock and Loomis walk over to the dressing room as Gary and Thurman stand up. GARY Hey, is there some kind of problem, here? BROCK You know Tommy? GARY Yeah, I'm his best man. THURMAN Head usher. BROCK I'm Deputy Daniel Brock, this is Doctor Sam Loomis, we have a situation we need to talk to Tommy about. THURMAN Wai, wai, wait. Dr. Loomis. *The* Dr. Loomis? Don't tell me this is about... LOOMIS I'm afraid it is. The door to the dresing room swings open and out steps Tommy. TOMMY Dr. Loomis? LOOMIS Hello, Tommy. TOMMY What's wrong? LOOMIS Have a seat, Tommy... Tommy does, along with the rest of the group. BROCK Last night, Dr. Hoffman, the head of Smith's Grove was brutally murdered, along with a security guard and a janitor. All were murdered with a sharp object, more than likely a knife. A message was left in Hoffman's office. A note with the word REVENGE written on it and a knife sticking it to the wood. Now, seeing as we found no trace of Michael Myers, he is currently a suspect. Through all this, Tommy's face falls. LOOMIS Tommy, you and I both know Michael. Forget him being a major suspect, I *know* it is him. It could be nobody else. We don't exactly know what the Revenge Note was about, but it was be best to get both you and Rachel safely out of town, at least for the night. TOMMY Rachel's at the church right now, helping with the decorations. His voice is flat. TOMMY She knows being the bride, she doesn't really have to worry about it, but you know Rachel. She's real hands on about these type of things. BROCK We'll go pick her up. Sheriff Meeker has already begun getting things ready with the sheriff in Markland. They'll have a place for you and your friends to stay tonight. TOMMY If Michael wants us, he'll follow us. He'll find us. There's nothing you can do to keep him from what he wants. BROCK We'll have you guarded. TOMMY Tell that to Rachel. She holed up in Sheriff Meeker's house and Michael still got to them. BROCK Still, it'll be harder for him to find you 100 miles from here than it'll be for him to find you here. TOMMY Doctor, what do you think? LOOMIS Michael is patient. He'll do what is necessary to get what he's come for. But then again, we're not sure you're what he's come for. TOMMY What else could it be? LOOMIS Who knows? But you need to be as safe as possible. I think it couldn't hurt to go with the sheriff's plan. In the mean time, we'll do what we can to track him down... and to kill him. TOMMY Let's go get Rachel, then. LOOMIS Very well.
