Some historians say that this settlement on the Egoshiha river grew later into
the city Perm and so they call 1723 the "year of birth " of this city. However, others believe
that the history of Perm began in 1781 when Catherine the Great made an administrative
reform and decided to give this settlement the name Perm. Moreover she made this city the
principal town of province. The first brick building in Perm was Peter and Paul's church. The first centre of city was near this church, but after the great fire in 1842 Sibirskaya street became the central one. Now the church has been restored and visitors are welcome. |
| In 1897 workers began building the first stone bridge over the Kama river. It was 936 m. long. On 27 January,1899 it was opened for trains. In 1919 it was destroyed when Kolchack's people were leaving Perm. However on 18 February,1920 it was rebuilt. |
| The theatre appeared in Perm long time ago. First it was located in a wooden building which burnt in 1863. In 1870s the new stone building was built. Since that time every winter people were looking forward to watch another perfomance in the new theatre. In 1886 the Perm authorities decided to give money for theatre development from city budget. After that a permanent group of opera singers gave perfomances in the theatre. It became the favourite place for a lot of people, they often spent here their weekends. Soon people in Moscow heard about such popularity of Perm theatre and every summer a group of actors from the best Moscow theatres came to give their perfomances in Perm. |
