Belle mouth full of sand
Belle waterdog
Kilo - in 1996 euth. for child aggression
Kilo 1996
Belle came to our locale Humane Society in 1999, she was a very under socialized puppy.
She was very scared and afraid, she would not move to the front of her kennel to greet customers.
She had been up for adoption for a while when I decided to pay attention to her.
She was very smart, eager to please and very thankful for me to pay attention to her. It took a while for her to build up confidence, she would scoot a side me and urinate all over herself. In about a week, she was leash trained and eager to walk not scoot!
I had a few hours each day to take Belle out of kennel before the shelter opened for the public. We worked on sit, down, shake and not to bark at my printer.
Belle was so smart, grateful and in such need to please me each day, that is was hard not to fall in love with her.
Due to the shelters Pit bull policy a lot of customer interested in Belle either thought she was cool for the wrong reasons or they where not willing to follow the shelters Pit bull policy. The adoption policy for Pit bulls and Pit mixes had stipulation such as: Two mandatory puppy training classes with refundable deposit for the training classes; a crate for crate training and a micro-chip implant.
All in all nobody was willing to pay more money for these stipulations , especially when you can buy a Pit bull or mix from a backyard for around $50 without any questions to be answered, such as : Where will the dog sleep? Inside Outside or how do you feel about breeding?
The shelters Pit bull policy also stated that All Pit bull and mixes placed for adoption reach the age of 4 month need to be humanly euthanized.
Since Belle had been up for adoption for some time now, she reached not only her age limit but it was time to rotate for others.
There it was again, the feeling of sadness, over the years I have learned not to get attached or at least I pretended not to get attached to these unfortunate and unwanted babies. I was heart broken and asked myself, how many can you let go? I was able to find rescue organizations willing to take on a few of my loved ones in the past, but with a the negative news media on Pit bull attacks and the liabilities for placing them into the right home looked weak. It was close to the weekend and I was able to save a spot for Belle on the Shelters Internet, in hope somebody would adopt her over the weekend. I went home that night sad, thinking back about Kilo, he was also one of my burdens I carried on my shoulder. He was lucky, I was able to place him into a rescue home, but his dislike for children sent him back to me. After trying all I could I ended up euthanizing my big boy, but he will always be in my heart.
Could I let Belle go like I did so many others? .. No!
I adopted my Belle that weekend, she has been as faithful and thankful to me since the day I took her out of her kennel!
BELLE is my big girl. She loves children, she is very confident now, she attended and past all her puppy classes. Since Belle is very active we started for Belle to attend obedience training. She past in flying colors and before her injuries she attended and loves her Schutzenhund training.

Update:
Belle has over the years under gone surgery to have 3 inches of her tail removed. Since Belle is always so happy to see every one, she split the tip of her tail on the walls while wagging. It is very hard to heal if the tail cant stop wagging, wagging, wagging and more wagging.
Belle also had her second surgery on her leg. She ruptured her ACL.
