Briar's Book
by Tamora Pierce
Review by Cayla
I chose to read Briar's Book by Tamora Pierce
because it is part of a fantasy series I like. Also, it is written by an
author I like. That is why I chose to read Briar's Book.
Briar, the main character, is a young plant mage
(a mage is a magical person) who lives at Winding Circle. He has brown
hair and brown eyes. He was a thief, and sometimes talks like one still.
When he was a thief his name was Roach. Briar loves plants. His teacher
is Rosethorn. She is tall with brown hair and brown eyes. Rosethorn scolds
a lot, but is kind on the inside. She proves it when she takes care of
Flick, a sick girl. Rosethorn also lives at Winding Circle. Rosethorn and
Briar are very close.
Briar used to be a thief named Roach. Every month
he goes with his teacher Rosethorn to Urda's House, a place where the poor
go for medical help to deliver medicine. There he meets his thief friend
Flick. She is sick and has a fever and blue spots. He calls Rosethorn with
his magic, and she comes to examine Flick. The disease, eventually named
blue pox, is new. This means anyone who has blue pox has to be isolated
until a cure is found. Briar, Rosethorn, and Flick go into Urda's House.
More sick people are sent in each day with more healers to care for them.
Then Crane, another mage, creates red thumbprints. It goes on your skin,
and if it turns white you have the blue pox. Briar's is red, and so is
Rosethorn's. They return home to work on finding a cure with Crane.
One by one they start to find the keys to the cure by experimenting on
blue pox samples. Then Rosethorn gets sick when a blue pox spills. Will
she get better? Will they discover a cure? Read this wonderful book to
find out.
I loved this book. I would recommend this book.
It has lots of description, and is very exciting. You never know what is
going to happen next. Briar's Book is a great book.
