Reason for making this page: This page started off as an 'assessment' until I decided I couldn't just do a few pages!
It is designed for lovers of The CLASH and also CLASH novices, many pics on the front page are linked to other sites that are related to the CLASH!
I owe a lot to Punk music the 77 scene, I am who I am because of many many beliefs through punk. Once a punk always a punk even though decades and time changes! You never forget where you came from and where you were moulded. I owe a lot to the bands of the 77 era...from A to X i.e Adicts through to X-ray specs. my main bands were/are The Sex Pistols, Cockney Rejects, Cocksparrer, Adicts, GBH, The Exploited, Dead Kennedys, The Partisans, Siouxsie and the Banshee's, The Ruts, GenX and Billy Idol...........equally to the Sex Pistols is THE CLASH. I could never give them back to what they gave me. The Pistols were great sadly only to 'live' and true to themselves for 18 months. Johnny Rotten (John Lydon) however is still one of my main mentors!!
Truth is important in music so when Johnny says he is gettin the Pistols back for a reunion cause he needs the money, means a lot in this artificial of 'Oh I love the fans' it's total bollox! Some Punk bands have 'sold out' as they say cause of morgages n marriage n all that copout!
A forever debate over love em or loathe em CLASH fans is.....Did they sell out when when they went to the USA especially when they played Shea Stadium.........I believe not! based on the Bonds incidents, where too many tickets were sold, The CLASH kept to every show 17 in total including matinee's so no fan who had paid good money to see them was ripped off! They never made a killin outta it, in fact it drew more hatred for them from 'powers to be' as the band insisted on stayin put for their fans!
USA needed to be educated on what was really happening so if they could get the message across playing small or huge places they would do so!
The best answer came from Mick Jones at a conference in the USA where a reporter asked him "what Do you think constitutes a sellout?"
Mick answered with...."well when people turn up to buy tickets and there are no more tickets left, THAT constitutes a sellout."
One has to remember it was the CLASH that fought harder than any politician against racism in the UK that spilt out into other countries, playing 'Punk Reggae'
I have been a CLASH fan for over 20 years n my collection n knowledge of the CLASH is vast, yet after 'learnin' all about the CLASH I don't pretend I know everything...I don't think anyone does. Though I do know they were the greatest band and in so many ways they indeed were in a league of their own n THE ONLY BAND THAT EVER MATTERED
Stay to this page and all other pages for updates as their will be plenty and a few surprises hidden in the pages.
