12/22/01: Hurray! Juan will be here tomorrow. So, there probably won't be any more entries until the new year. Happy Holidays and Best Wishes!
Oh and my car battery died today, but my hero, Ellaine, had a jumper cable and all is good in the hood.
12/21/01: Check out Yatta! (need windows media player to view) you may want to lower the volume and shrink the media player screen for a clearer picture If you are having trouble downloading, you may try here. If you're still having trouble, try either links again in an hour.
12/20/01: Sadly, I got two rejections in two days. I got rejected by the Medical Consulting people and I didn't get the Program Assistant position at Student Services. Stephanie got the Student Services job, which is perfectly understandable and appropriate, since she had been working there temporarily. I would have been perfectly fine with it if that was all JoAnna told me. Fortunately, JoAnna offered me a temporary hourly position as a Program Assistant for the Desks. They're still developing the job description, so I'll have to apply for the actual permanent position. Still, I'm happy and I have a job for the new year. Additionally, Juan will be in town on the 23rd. Good news all around. Happy Holidays everyone!
12/16/01: Friday night, I managed to ruin three presents. I accidentally "told" Ellaine what she and her sisters were getting for Christmas. My mom pinched me for my stupidity, but I deserved it. I love giving gifts and wish I could just hand them out right away. Lesson learned: no more giving away clues or hints.
At least I accomplished something yesterday. I cleaned my room. I mean, a really good cleaning. Layers of dust were removed and what I call furniture was minorly moved. Now on to the rest of the apartment . . .
New stuff to check out:

12/14/01: If I was an Autobot, I'd be:

Take the Transformers personality test at android5.com!
12/14/01: Had my second interview with Student Services today. I felt it went well. I should find out by the end of next week (which probably means next month). Visited some friends while I was on campus. It's nice to have some free time =).
Funny stuff, check it out:
Smart Asian women? Sexually empowered Asian men? Good politics. Great porn. Asian Pride . . . Porn!
12/12/01 6pm: Interview went well. Did some shopping. Bought a blouse for four dollars and a skirt for two!
12/12/01 approx 9am: Have an interview today at 1 o'clock with Medical Consulting Networks, Inc. and a second interview with Student Services on Friday. I hope to have a job by the end of the year. Here's hoping . . .
12/05/01: Here are the pictures Juan and I took over Thanksgiving (click text) Please try not to snicker at our unphotogenic selves . . .
12/03/01: Back to the job hunt, but I sure did enjoy my vacation! My Thanksgiving with Juan was extended and I just got back last night. I'm sad that it's over, but ever-so-glad that it occured.
Thanksgiving morning started out pretty awful at the airport. They weren't kidding when they say show up at the airport 2 hours ahead of time if you're taking a domestic flight. There were so many hassles, hold-ups, and line changes that I almost cried while wating in line to get through the metal detectors. Fortunately, I made it to my gate while the plane was boarding and we departed right on time!
Suprisingly, things at LAX were hassle free. Juan waited for me at baggage claim. Once my suitcase showed up, we hugged and kissed our way to the car.
We hung out at his house and I met a few of his relatives until dinner time, which was fabulous! There was more food than I could shake a fork at. His mom made the turkey and his uncle's wife made posole' and three kinds of tamales. All home-made and abosolutely delicious! Everything else was made by his oldest brother, who works as a chef for one of the House of Blues restaurants.
Some of the more memorable dishes were the two different types of potatoes (garlic mash and mashed sweet potato), various vegetables (corn on the cob, asparagus and carrots), and home-made cornbread. There was even two kinds of dessert. Unfortunately, I only had room for the bread pudding.
Over the rest of the Thanksgiving weekend I went to the Santa Monica Promenade, walked around downtown Los Angeles and did some shopping. We toured Placito Olvera (historical L.A.), Little Tokyo, and Chinatown. During that weekend, I also figured that since I didn't expect to hear back from my interviews before December 3rd, I could extend my stay an extra week.
During my extra week I managed to get into the Harry Potter books. I read the first one while waiting for Juan at work and we watched the movie on Tuesday. Then on Wednesday, I made dinner for Juan and his mom. I made sinigang and rice. On Friday, we took pictures, which will be posted once I get those scanned. Then Saturday we drove down to San Diego and went to their world famous zoo. The place was huge and didn't get to see everything, but we made sure to visit the pandas and gorillas. We even saw a baby girraffe!
When we weren't doing the touristy thing, we watched t.v., rented movies (Shrek and Snatch are hillarious, by the way), and played Monkey Ball on his brand new GameCube (which we both call his other woman *hehe*)
Sadly, the magic had to end. We did some shopping Sunday morning and had lunch at Eastside Mario's (which had delcious Italian food) before heading for the airport. I was very sad and I miss Juan a lot, but thanks to Cingular and my plan with Unlimited Night & Weekend Minutes, we were on the phone as soon as my plane landed.
Now it's back to rain, reality, and researching job prospects. I admit that it's good to be home, but it helps to know that Juan will be here in 3 weeks. Yippy!
11/22/01 1:16am : Oh, almost forgot to say Happy Thanksgiving!
11/22/01 12:53am : Can't sleep! Can't wait to be in L.A!
11/21/01: Today was a good day. My honey called me this morning, which was a pleasant start to my day. Got my apartment totally clean. Finished my laundry. Managed to fit all my packing into one suitcase. All before noon.
Had a great interview with Housing and Food Services, Food Service Department for the position of Office Support Supervisor. I was interviewed by Cheryl and Leonard. I had met both of them before, so I was fairly comfortable at the start (although, I was starving, therefore, a little shaky). I really believe that I answered their questions well and and asked intelligent questions. Leonard even told me that good things were said about prior to the interview . . . something along the lines of my good reputation preceding me *big grin*. So, I walked out of there feeling good. They expect to make a decision by December 3rd.
Now I can relax and enjoy my time in fabulous Los Angeles. I may even extend my stay there to avoid the holiday traffic. Hurray! Hurray!
Oh, and I revamped the website. I hope the navigation is smoother. Here's the old site for comparison's sake. What do you think?
11/20/01: Boo hoo, I have to wait another week to find out about the Program Assistant position at Student Services. The wait is pure torture!
11/19/01: Had a good weekend. Got a haircut. Watched Kahla get her hair done. Enjoyed a dinner party with some friends. Now I'm looking forward to going to California for Thanksgiving with Juan.
The only thing that's causing me anxiety now is the need for a new job. Luckily, Laurel has extended my paycheck with some hourly work. So, my real last day at work is tomorrow. I hope to hear good news from Student Services this week. JoAnna said she'd let me know my status some time this week. I would be ever-so-thankful if I got that job. But if things don't work out there, at least I've got another interview on Wednesday with Food Services. Oh, the anxiety!
11/14/01 morning: I'm feelin' the love today. Although today is my last day in L-3, my supervisor made me cookies! My favorite is soft oatmeal raisin, and she made four different varieties! I didn't know there were so many varieties of oatmeal cookies. At the moment I'm eating oatmeal with apple because I've never had that before. It's yummy. Too bad I had a bagel this morning. I'm a little full so, I'll report on the rest as I munch my way through the day.
As for my interviews, the first one was okay. I'm not sure what to think of it, or maybe I just don't want to jinx myself. I'm not a particulary superstitious person. In any case, I answered the questions well and I'll hear from my interviewer next week *crosses fingers*.
The second interview was supposed to happen yesterday, but they were running behind schedule. So I got a stay of execution. We're going to contact each other today and reschedule.
I hope I get either one of those jobs. Then I can relax on my vacation to California and I'll eventually have health insurance.
11/08/01: hurrah! hurrah! I have a job interview tomorrow AND I got a call today from another place that wants to interview me!
11/7/01 10:10am my goodness, the cable guy is sooooo cute
11/5/01 morning: Just cause I didn't update Friday afternoon doesn't mean I wasn't bored. Everyone left early! Well, Amanda was nice enough to stay till the very bitter end. thank you amanda
Fortuitously, I ran across some fresh informationsuperhighwayroadkill. Check out the artistically meaty fun at MarkRyden.com and the not-so-carnivorous LaLuzdeJesus.com.
As for my weekend, I went home to Bremerton since my dad's sister was in town. She didn't get to stay long, since she was here on business. But it was nice to see her again. We did a lot of storytelling and laughing. We dropped her off at the nearly empty airport on Saturday, then went to church and the mall on Sunday. My dad and I even went to the driving range Sunday evening. The buckets were half price after 5pm. I got tired after swinging (and missing) a couple times. So my mom drove me to the ferry to get back to Seattle.
10/31/01: HOLY HYSTERIA BATMAN! This anthrax stuff is getting out of hand. Fifteen minutes before we close the office, I get a call from a resident (I work for a housing office) saying she's at Hall Health because she had touched a white powdery substance on her refrigerator door. Why is this girl calling my office?! Why did her roommates try to describe the white powder to me?! It's not as if I work in The Office That Handles Hazardous Materials and Other Scary Things.
Why did Anthrax come to mind when they saw white powder in the kitchen?! Why not flour? or baking soda? or baking powder? or powdered milk? or cocaine using roommate?! . . .
In any case, I behaved in a very professional manner and handed the problem to my boss . . . well, I did make some phone calls and look up stuff. There weren't any recent work orders in our system for that particular apartment, so none of our people were in that aparment. We ended up just telling the residents to call the police.
Ten minutes after five the situation was basically resolved, so I trekked (sp?) home and found an overturned car at the intersection of my apartment complex. I didn't see how it happened, but it was a strange sight. So I stood out there until I realized how thin my jacket was in the cold night air. Since the majority of the action had already occured, I got bored and cold and called up my neighbor. We decided to go out for dinner and by the time we got back the car, the police, and the cutie firemens were gone.
Happy Halloween!
10/28/01 Sunday morning: Yay for me. I actually stayed up past midnight and went out with some friends. I'm on a streak! Went out dacing, had a few drinks, and generally had a good time until I got tired (around 1am). And I even saw (and touched) Freddy Garcia('s elbow) at Tiki Bob's. I know I'm being a dork, but I'm just trying to make Ellaine jealous *hehe* I love you Ate 'Laine. Oh, and I finished reading The Women of Brewster Place. It was good. Maybe I'll expand on it later.
10/26/01 another Friday afternoon: Just another day at work, waiting for the weekend to start. more web-browsing. added some new links and updated the wish list. two more hours. have a good weekend everybody. note to self
10/25/01 just before noon: singing: I'm so excited! And I just can't hide it! I'm about to loose control and I think I like it! Okay, so I'm not really singing, but I'm still excited. Aaron and Lisa totally made my day. It started out okay, then things got not so good around 8:30am. I goofed an e-mail. Not really a big deal, but it could have been avoided if I had asked for some clarification on the assignment. Also, I ordered an overhead projector for a meeting that came late. Not my fault, but still! I was feeling kinda low but took it as a sign to not get a big head after all those compliments and the job offer from the last few days. Then Lisa goes and sends me an e-mail saying she liked my site *big grin*. Aaron had directed her to it, and he even signed my guestbook. I've said this before and I'll say it again, I'm the luckiest girl in the world!
10/24/01 afternoon: Turning down a job is like ripping off a bandaid. Just do it quick to get it over with. I dreaded calling the YMCA and telling them that I couldn't work for them at this time, but my contact was very kind and understanding. She even left the door open for me to call in case what I have going down falls through. Cool, huh? Thanks mom, dad, and my honey for helping me out.
10/23/01 early evening: I got two compliments at work today and a job offer from the YMCA. Oh what to do?! I would love to work at the YMCA and do something good, but I just can't afford to work there at this time. *sigh* I've talked to my confidants about it and I've already made a decision. I just can't afford to commute to Bellevue to work part time and still not have benefits. This makes me sad, but I know my time will come.
10/22/01 weekend recap: Friday night, chatted with my cousin in Las Vegas. I hope to visit again soon (with a car this time). It's amazing how boring Las Vegas can be when you're a 10 minute car ride away with no car. Saturday, did some shopping and planned to go to the Bohemian. I'm looking for places to take my cousins when they come to visit. Recommend anything? Anyway, my friends and I got out shopping done, but on our way back home we hit a deer. A !@#$ing deer! It was a dark road and it bolted in front of us. I shut my eyes, screamed, and prepared myself to see dead deer on the hood of the car. The car is banged up and there are bits of fur on the left headlight, but everything else is in working order. The deer ran off, so we're assuming that it's fine. Sunday, I went to the NWBookfest at the Stadium Exhibition Center. I found some great Filipino fiction. So I'm looking forward to reading those. I'm currently working on a book list for this page. Please let me know of any good books.
10/19/01 afternoon update: It's another Friday afternoon and I'm watching the clock while I browse some feminist sites . . . (stands on soap box) Didn't know I was a feminist? Don't be scared. I'm the quiet receptionist type (though my bf would beg to differ). And I'm not even man-hating (though they can be infuriating at times). I just want to add a few items to the limited list of characteristics that define woman/asian/pinay and maybe change the world while I'm at it. I was a SOC major that actually loved my classes, what else can I say? I would've majored in ethnic studies, but I discovered those classes a little late in my academic career. In any case, you'll find the occassional rant about society in here. I wish I could write eloquently and speak my mind with absolute certainty, but I'm too full of angst to perform such a feat. Plus I have a whole lot more learning to do about the world around me. Despite the B.A. from the University of Washington, there is more knowledge to be found (outside the bounds of any Time-Warner owned information dissemination station). I hope to practice my "writing" and someday find a voice.
In the meantime, please check out the links on the right. Admittedly, the World Wide Web is a quagmire of smut and stupidity, but there are moments of serendipity, hillarity, and even clarity. Check out BigBadChineseMama.com for some mind-expanding and gut-busting satire.
10/09/01 late morning: So I figured out why I felt so awful on Friday. I'm sick. Sicky sick sick. I caught some bug, had a headache all day Saturday and struggled to breath all day Sunday. How was your weekend? Anyway, my cold isn't too bad. I'll just be grateful for my sniffles and sinus pressure since I know it could be worse.
10/05/01 4pm I feel crampy. I'm so glad it's Friday. I want to crawl into bed and sleep for 2 days and wake up just in time for the Simpsons on Sunday night. I'm still at work. The last hour is always the longest. Plus things have been slow today. I've finished all my work. Now all I can do is wait for someone to call and fill up some of this empty time. It's so nice outside. I can see the sun shining and remember how warm it was during my lunch hour. I wonder what I'll be having for dinner tonight. I certainly have food at home, but I never want what I have. Why is that so? I guess that's not always true. I specify that to strictly refer to food. In general, I am a very satisfied person. When it comes to food, I'm rarely satiated, which takes me to my figure, which I am not very satisfied with. I could benefit from an exercise routine, but I'm not dissatisfied with my body enough to actually do something about it. If I disrgard today's crampy feeling, I would say I'm satisfied with everything.
15 minutes later
Fabulous, just as I finish complaining about how slow things are going, I get a wierd complaint about an apartment. Why is it that the questions or problems I have no clue about, pop up when nobody else is in the office? That's the trouble with being the new gal. Oh well, the bad man is gone. Did you notice that I like to complain? Well, not so much complain as commenting on the current situation. I'm a watcher and commentator not a creator. Plus I'm good at cutting and pasting. Anyway, back to watching the clock . . .
10/03/01 Happy Birthday Lisa
10/01/01 I actually stayed up late enough to go clubbing this weekend and guess who I see before me? Mariners pitcher, Freddie Garcia, and First Baseman for the Oakland A's, Jason Giambi! Just thought I'd share that with ya'll. Have a good one!
