Coming from the industry into a technical institute where dozens of eyes and ears followed my every word was quite daunting, but I got over that. I had a bit of a learning curve going from Max 2.5 to 3 but I got over that. What I am having trouble with is lack of resources. I gave up on the Silver tutorial book that came with Max 3 pretty quick, and I'm spending two days a week just writing handouts. My course also teaches Maya, and I was amazed at the dozens of manuals that comes with one licence! The School have pretty much blown their budget on the new computer suite and educational copies of Max and Maya. (They think you can learn Max in five months and Maya in another 5 to be good enough for the real world!!) They don't have much money left to buy lots of books although there aren't that many out there for Max 3 yet. To make things worse I'm only allowed to teach part time - ONE day a week. I've had the big lecture where you have to teach them to teach-themselves to learn. This can be painful at times watching a student stressing out because they also have to hand in assignments from other meaningless classes that comply with the degree structure. I'm seriously thinking of packing it in and going out and earning some REAL money, but the students are relying on me. I'm not sure how I can make make this job any easier so I can have time to work on other projects for my ocassional clients, for my own wee business. I'm turning too many jobs down because the teaching is getting in the way! Yikes! Thats my plea for help.
